5 star buy for use stock. Even better for customizing.
It’s $30, with a sheath. I knew what I was getting for the price, and it’s great for the price. Really great! I could have used it as-is and I would have been happy. But I didn’t. I removed the handle scales (a lot harder than youtube videos make it look – one of those rivets would NOT GIVE AT ALL and had to be cut off). I replaced them wenge wood and covered the little “finger guard.” Basically I made a handle that is exactly like the original Kephart knife. It was well worth it. Don’t get me wrong, the handle that comes on the knife is perfectly fine, comfortable, etc. But this is just on a crazy level of comfort for various grips. The original sheath is “okay.” The way the retention works is two-fold. First, there is this plastic liner at the top of the sheath with a grippy texture that grabs the scales. Second, the welt has a little notch cut into it where the finger guard goes. It does hold the knife perfectly fine, but I have some doubts about how well it will after lots of use. I should point out that, because of the plastic insert, you CANNOT properly wet form the sheath - the retention is what's there from the factory. Regardless, after re-handling my knife it would no longer fit. The good news for those of you who want to re-handle the knife is that it can be fixed without needing a new sheath. I was able to use some scissors to get in there and cut out most of the plastic insert and then I was able to pry out most of the rest of it (right up to the stitching) with a lot of twisting with needle nose pliers. After that, I was able to wetform the sheath around the knife. NOW IT HOLD LIKE THE DICKENS. And down the road when it loosens up I can just re-wet form it again. I added a reinforcement stitch while I was at it.The knife comes with an “almost” 90 degree spine. It would strike a ferro rod okay. But being 1075 it was VERY quick work to file it perfectly square (like 2 minutes) and will now throw sparks like crazy. It takes a mind-numbingly sharp edge (this from a guy with a lot of knives). The grind was even-ish (what do you expect at this price point) and came sharp. It didn’t really matter to me because I knew I was going to change the bevel angle anyway. But it was good enough that 20 swipes on a strop and you are ready for surgery with no other work needed. So it was $30, with a sheath, and a couple hours of work, but this knife is now absolutely insane. I would say it’s a 5 –star excellent buy to use as-is. It’s an even better buy for customization. And I'm not an Old Hickory fan-boy either; this is the first time I've ever held one.

Heirloom Quality
Very well made and so worth the money;Perfect size for most hands;Holds an edge well;Carves and indexes well;Very nice wood grain (It really popped after a very light sanding and a touch of block oil);I gave mine to my nephew's 10yr old son and he uses it to clean his pheasants and such. It's become his prize possession. He keeps 'er clean and maintains the edge as he goes. He's learned well.I've bought another for myself, but I think my nephew will find it in his hand one day.

Good starting point, needs some work out of the box
It's good steel with a good heat treat, an awesome blade profile, and a good solid full tang handle.However. The edge out of the box was extremely rough. Also the secondary bevel was surprisingly fat and obtuse, especially for something designed for skinning and gutting fish and small game I would have expected something more acute. I took a file and pushed the shoulder on the secondary bevel back a bit, and with a few stones and a strop, slicked up the edge and now it's a great cutter. The wood on the handle was extremely rough in places so I sanded that down and then applied some coconut oil and beeswax to treat it up. Now it's a handsome and effective knife, but it took a little work to get there.

Best All Around Camping Knife
I bought this Ontario Old Hickory 4" and put it in our RV for camping. I bought the BK-62, Ka-Bar Becker and put it in the truck for camping. I wanted a general purpose, all-around camp knife, in the woods, on the cook stove, in the field. I found I reach for the Old Hickory 9 times out of 10 vs the BK-62.This old hickory started in the field kitchen. It sliced beef, cut carrots, doubled as a spatula. It stirred stew, split kindling, sliced onion, cut rope, anything I wanted. Please note the spear point and belly on this knife will clean out a mayonnaise jar as slick as your grandma would have.Workmanship is as good as any of the original hundred-year-old Old Hickory knives from the old days. Maybe the steel is not as hard, but who knows; it takes an excellent working edge, and the carbon steel grows a great patina. The handle is that same old blocky rectangle as all the dependable Old Hickorys have always been. Never complained, never will, doesn't slip in wet hands. And the handle is walnut! The blade is a full flat grind, full tang, with a spear point. Some marketing specialist missed saying it competes directly with much more expensive Becker designed knives. It even comes with a sheath for field work. I never 'batonned' it through a log because I have other tools for that, but If I needed it to do that, it would. After all the fancy handled knives go to the collectors drawer, and the plastic ones have melted on the fire, this one will go to the woods with me every time, right along with my cast iron skillet, big dutch oven, and my half-gallon Wear-Ever percolator. Kudos Ontario.

Mini kephart
It's like a mini kephart. Great sheath. Was shaving sharp out of the box. I'll never go into the woods without it.

Great knife!
This is the third one I’ve purchased, regrettably it came with poor edge grind, which is correctable!Of all the knives I own I continually come back to this style of Old Hickory for camp, outdoor, bush activities. In my opinion Kephart was dead on as to this style of knife!

OKC version of the Kephart Bush knife.
This Fish and Small Game knife was first brought out in 1920 and has been in and out of production ever since. It is thinner than the original, made of 1075 carbon steel. It does the job, and it a good value for the price. 1075 is more prone to rust, and has an HRC of about 55. It does not hold an edge as long as a 1095 knife but it can quickly resharped with a stone setup on the counter a 1500 grit whetstone is a good choice. Because it is thinner than the original Kephart knife it does the job of a really nice petty knife. In the field it also does the job of a camp utility knife as other more expensive fixed blade knives.

The grind is awful.
The knife came with a very uneven grind. Not sharp out of the box. I have to reprofile the entire edge because their is a very high grind in the middle of the knife.

Not great
This knife is not great. It came very dull, almost round edged. The sheath is cheap and stiff, doesn't hang great. The scales don't match up to the blade handle, and the finish could be much nicer. It's a very basic knife with not alot going on

got a used knife
this knife was a disappointment, thought made in usa meant quality, but not anymore. there is a space between the handle scale and blade/tang at the back of the handle. the blade has a visible bent in it. it is also scratched up so maybe i got a returned item?
