will this fit to Rain Bird 1/2 tubing??

These adapters works with a wide range of 1/2" inch tubing from .520 to .620" Inside Diamater, .620 to .710” Outside Diameter, and .045 to .055 Wall Thickness. Please check that the ID, OD, and Wall Thickness of the tubing you're using fall within those ranges (ID, OD and Wall Thickness measurements of 1/2" irrigation tubing can vary depending on the brand and model). Please note when attaching the adapters to your tubing, applying heat to the end of the tubing (using hot water, for example) for a few seconds before pushing it over the adapter barb will help immensely with installation. This softens the tubing and allows you to push it in place more easily for a tight fit.

When connector to join hoses, is plumbing tape recommended or leak proof without it?

No. They are a tight fit and no leaking. It works best to warm the end of the hose in very hot (boiling) water (heat in microwave in a cup) before trying to insert the connector. Makes the hose more pliable. But no tape required.

with this work with the raindrip tubing?

raindrip is not a brand or type of tubing that I am familiar with. My system is a hodgepodge of several manufactures parts and it works fine. I have found that light use of a heat gun helps all the parts fit easier.

Will these work with 5/8 inch tubing?

These are intended for 1/2" tubing however, that said, these are 17mm fittings. If you used them on 5/8" (15.9mm) with crimp clamps (such as oetiker) you should be fine.

Easy to use. I was looking to expand my irrigation from the garden to other parts of the yard and I was able to achieve my goal. Because these are so tight fitting, it is hard to remove if you make a mistake. I had to cut my tubing from the fittings and start again . I would also suggest laying the tubing in the sun or soaking with hot water to get them to fit the 1/2 tubing

Item was ordered in lieu of manufacturer part because considerably less expensive than manufacturer. Shipped very quickly, quality good. Installed into existing sprinkler system without any particular problem as far as compatibility. Happy with results.
