Vitcas say suitable for indoor and outdoor use ovens and barbecues. Once in situ you could use concrete waterproofer to seal them but check with Vitcas first before application they will inform you if this is required.

They need to set on a solid base as they do break easily. If applying to concrete they need to be soaked in water first so that they do not dry out the mortar. They would not be suitable for a grill they need a firm base for support.

I use these bricks on my work bench to braze metal objects on. I have a blow torch full on and even though the bricks can get red hot I have not burnt the top of my bench yet ! If you have enough bricks to cover the whole surface I would say they would probably be OK.
