If you are going to rebuild a 700r4 transmission, get this book first! Best source for the whole procedure. There are a few different books, there is an update book which might be handy but You Tube is your friend. This book has everything you need for a NORMAL rebuild.

My boyfriend needed this to rebuild his transmission and I helped him so it was extremely nice to have.

Good instructional manual on how to properly assemble the 87-92 700r4/4L60. Diagrams showed exploded view of install. If you are familiar with using old Chilton's or OEM service manuals, this should be easy. Some of the images for bearing direction can be confusing and with as many 700r4 YouTube videos are out there, you can gain a clearer picture of some of those. This manual does NOT show you specific pitfalls to look for. I used this manual more for torque specs and install steps...but I supplemented that with YouTube videos to see what to look for in worn bands, bad seals, leaky check-balls, etc. This manual does not provide clear definitions on what failures may have caused the transmission to stop in the first place. I needed YouTube for that.

If you're rebuilding a 700-r4 transmission, this is the only reference book you will need to do the job. The illustrations are great and every part has a reference number so you can easily figure out what each piece is for. The thing I like best about this book is that it shows the differences between the year models of the 700-r4 so that you can do the job right. If you're modifying your 700-r4 then this book won't help much as it only references stock builds.
