Well-built but requires adjusting your cooking technique
Have used it twice: once for bacon then 2 burgers and a second time with just 2 burgers. Both times using a 10" Lodge cast iron skillet. The first impression is that it is a well-constructed implement. The solid rim is sturdier than even the product photo suggests while the handle and hinge mechanism feel secure. That said, the hinge seems like weak link in the construction: not that it is cheap or seems likely to fail soon, but it just doesn't seem as nicely engineered as the other parts and you can clearly see the indentations on the underside where it is attached. It would have been nice to see a 3 or 4 point rivet mounting. Lastly, the screen mounting seems like it will last. However, it terms of performance, the screen is the low point. If I could change a couple details, it would be to make the screen larger with a finer mesh that would allow more water vapor to escape while capturing more grease spatter. It's definitely less messy than cooking without the screen but it requires more effort to control moisture levels underneath. The second time I cooked the burgers, I didn't realize how much moisture would get trapped and slightly overcooked them then due to the effects of the steam. To be fair, those were frozen patties, so I may only use the screen after flipping them next time and see how that goes.In contrast, I used a very cheap screen many years ago that wasn't as good as catching grease but also didn't require relearning how you cooked with it. As it is I ended up leaving a small opening along one side towards the middle of the stove to allow more moisture to escape but would be easier to clean escaped grease from, but that sort of defeats the purpose.I got this with plans to get a 12" skillet but now I'm not sure I'd use it with that since the screen size relative to the pan would be that much less and the amount of potential moisture produced by a larger cooking surface would likely exacerbate the issue.

Pretty good, but...
I have used the guard several times now for frying and sauteeing and have the following comments.Pro:-does a much better job of reducing spatter than my old screen-type guard-rests more securing on pans than my screen guard (but see Cons)-the folding handle is a plus for storage or putting in the dishwasher-the overhanging solid stainless steel 'body' is less likely to burn than a screen type when using high heat with a smaller pan-the seller was very responsive to communication I had with them about the diameter issue, below.Cons:-steam condenses on the bottom of the solid portion and drips back into the pan, which can cause more spatter and food sticking-the pan is 11-7/8 inches in diameter and doesn't fully cover the rim to rim diameter of a couple of my 12 inch pans, so it rests below the rim of those pans and comes into contact with larger food items being cooked.Bottom line: a good spatter guard for smaller pans, but should be 1/2 inch or so wider to fit all 12 inch pans. And the condensation situation can be a problem for some foods.Short rant: I really don't like the fact that some sellers (including this one) solicit favorable reviews by giving away or reducing the price of their products. Yes, I know that the reviewers say they are being unbiased, but I think that receiving a 'gift' encourages praise, even when it isn't fully deserved. Amazon really should flag these reviews so that it is clear to potential buyers that they may not be reading entirely unbiased opinions.

And it looks really cool.
It fits in the dishwasher because the handle folds up, making it the size of a large plate. It fits in the drawer where I keep pot lids, all of which I store on one edge. Also, the metal rim makes it fit on just about any pot or frying pan I have. It fits down inside some of my larger pans, which is only a problem if it rests on the food in the pan. I find that I set my spoon or spatula on top of it while cooking so that drips fall through into the pan. Definitely a big improvement on the cheap screen-door paddle-style splatter screen I had before. And it looks really cool.UPDATE: another reason to love this is as a lid over a frying pan! I needed to cover a pan and didn't have a lid that fit, so I put this on, and it covered nicely except for the mesh steam outlet in the middle. I just set one of my smaller pot lids over the mesh area, and, hooray, a complete lid! Condensing moisture fell back into the food so beautifully that I may continue using it as a lid, even for pots and pans that I already have lids for.

Bacon makes me happy
Mmmm bacon... Just hate the clean up? So did I. I have never seen a screen cover this nice. It's everything it promises to be, and just so pretty, too. The indents make sure it stays on the pan. The screen is a very fine mesh so no grease - and I mean nothing - gets out. I really like how the screen is fully integrated into the lid so it seem very well made. Love the fold in handle, it stays somewhat cool. AND it even came with a very nice little blue towel/hot pad! So nice to get a surprise :)I was a little worried that it would hold the steam in so my food wouldn't crisp. But it has not been a problem to either crisp bacon or reduce sauce. Mmm spaghetti sauce....

Good folding cooking screen, a few drawbacks.
It works pretty well and is usable on different size pans due to the rings. It is also very pretty :)Pros: I like it, and would buy it again. It folds up so it stores easily. It cleans easily. Does an ok job of controlling splatter.Cons: Only does an ok job of controlling spatter. If i'm cooking in oil, for example, I can still get some splatter through the screen, though it usually just ends up on the top of the thing. Also, the hinge attachment for the handle is a little poky in the corners and need to be careful when washing.
