Compared to the old books of this kind, it is definitely NEW AGE. If someone from SUSSKIND's theoretical- minimum audience would want to read Cahill's book, there should be a mathematical bridge for them though--maybe constructed from Max Planck's introductory theoretical physics books.

It is filled with an astronomical amount of insightful and useful examples of physically -motivated applications of advanced mathematics both pure and applied as well as a myriad of thoughtful exercises making it a useful book for an advanced course in mathematical physics. Make no mistake though, while this book is largely self-contained and easy to follow, it is definitely written for an audience with at least the skill level of an advanced undergraduate And beginning graduate physics student.

Of all the math methods in physics books on my shelves, this is the one I go to when I need to brush up on some topic. Very clearly written, it also includes some modern topics not covered in other books of this type. Clean lucid presentation by someone who knows the material extremely well.
