Watching a bee for a few seconds, it’s easy to see where the term ‘busy bee’ comes from. They work nonstop building and taking care of their colony. Small but determined, these insects are crucial to the health and wellbeing of our ecosystem. From the food we depend on for survival to the beauty of the colorful flowers and trees that make up our environment, bees are a vital part of the web of life. “I Am a Bee” teaches basic environmental and biological concepts for kids ages 3 to 7. Vibrant images that match easy to follow facts help children learn beginning science on the life of a honey bee. This bee book for kids explores the life of a honey bee. Children will learn about the hierarchy of the colony: the different positions that bees fill, the work that needs to be done, the steps to accomplish the work, and how the work benefits the bees as a whole, along with the rest of the creatures in the environment. Kids will also learn about the hive, its structure, and what it stores, and so much more. “I Am a Bee” is an excellent book about bees for kids that teaches important bee facts in a way that captures kids’ attention. Children follow the life of a bee with a smiling main character that explains colony life first-hand. From the work that has to be done, to a bee’s favorite food of honey and pollen and the honeycomb that it’s all stored in, the little worker bee describes what it’s like to be a honey bee. Big, bright images and large print make this a great read-aloud book for children in homeschool, traditional and Montessori classrooms. The basic concepts presented encourage preschoolers, kindergarteners, and first-graders to follow along. Questions at the back of the book revisit topics to promote scientific thought and reinforce learning. How do honey bees help plants and people? What do honey bees eat? How do bees communicate? What do bees do during winter? Find the answer to these questions and many more. “I Am a Bee” goes well with many science activities for kids ages 3-7, ranging from creating a pollen transfer between construction paper bees flying to flowers, or to building an egg-carton hive, along with many possibilities for art activities creating bees and labeling their anatomy. Kids can learn all about bees while still enjoying the imaginative character that makes fuzzy, yellow honey bees a favorite with children. Bees are a special and enjoyable insect for parents looking for a bug book for kids ages 3-5. “I Am a Bee” also touches on topics of conservation and a healthy environment, helping kids understand the human responsibility and impact of actions when it comes to considering and caring about these very important insects. “Wonderful bee book for helping my granddaughter overcome her fear of bees.” For more STEM books for young children, check out these other titles: I Am a Frog, I Am Spring, I Am a Dinosaur, I Am Tyrannosaurus Rex, and I Am the Solar System, and many more...
