These work really well at either end of the hose
Most of the hoses we have purchased have aluminum fittings which after a season or two will fuse to your outdoor faucet. We use one of these between the faucet and hose, and another between the sprayer and the hose. This prevents fusing because these are brass. Also they work well as a sprayer too. Very high quality!

Every homeowner should have one.
Can’t believe I didn’t have one of these before now. This is a well built all brass shut off for the end of the hose. This device makes life way easier not having to run back to the house to turn off the water. We use it several times a week from cleaning the pond, watering trees to washing the car. Every home should have one.

Seems sturdy and works so far, no leaks
So far so good, hooked this up to a hose winder to control the flow into it from a thick main hose running around the corner of the house

Great for use as connector savers
Plastic does not corrode and I have been burned by aluminum and brass couplings getting galvanically corroded together more than once. When that happens the couple must be cut apart, destroying it in the process. This coupler prevents that problem from occurring because it gets connected between the dissimilar metal hose fittings, separating them. I actually find the ball valve to be unnecessary, but I couldn't find one of these without a valve. It might seem stupid to make these without a valve, but there is a market for them. Think of them as "connector savers".One reviewer gave one star for the reduced size of the opening in the ball valve, but that has insignificant effect on the water flow because the friction loss and turbulence of the reduced opening is negligible compared to the length of the hose. That reviewer almost had me fooled, but I went back to my fluid mechanics notes. After having tried them in the real world, I am not disappointed at all. These are plastic, but strong enough to handle typical household use forces without breaking. If they don't hold up in the sun for more than a couple of seasons, they are still cheaper to replace than dealing with a corroded metal coupling.
