I just adore Richard Farnsworth. He is great in this movie. I really enjoyed it.

I've probably only watched it 20 times, since seeing it in a theater when it first came out. It's a romanticized account of the life of Bill Miner. A stagecoach robber, Miner--the Pinkertons called him "gentleman bandit"--was credited with originating the command "Hands up!"After doing a long jolt in San Quentin, he's released into the early days of the 20th century. He's never seen a car, or a moving picture. There aren't any more stagecoaches. What to do?As I said, this is a romanticized version of a period in his life. He really does try to go straight. Richard Farnsworth deserved an Oscar for his performance. He even looks like Miner. He really does a wonderful job.This is the kind of movie you could watch today and watch again tomorrow. Or watch again this evening. The cinematography is beautiful. The music, by The Chieftains, fits. I could go on. I'd rather watch the movie again.

An old favorite with a splendid actor in the central role.

OUTSTANDING CLASSIC OLDER FLICK --- STILL WAITING 4 DVD/BLU/4K.... AFTER 30 YEARS I'm still waiting for a release of this fantastic critically acclaimed, award winning Canadian film. --- Even though I just paid an arm and a leg for MY 2ND media version VHS of this never before on disc film I would Happily buy a release of this,one of my top favorite films of all time if it was released on disc tomorrow.--- I as many before & I'm sure after me have & will give yet another huge thumbs up to this timeless fantastic film. -- For plot details others have covered that aspect very nicely already. SO THAT WE MIGHT SEE RELEASED I ENCOURAGE ALL TO PLACE IT IN YOUR WANT LISTS ON TOP PRIORITY. ----- UPDATE JULY 2020 ----- THANKS TO ALL WHO PUT THIS GREAT FILM IN YOUR WANT LISTS --- FINALLY WE ARE TO BE REWARDED WITH A 4K RESTORATION BLU-RAY OF THIS GREAT FILM by KINO LORBER. - I just called Amazon the other day to inquire why it wasn't available for pre-order and they put it up a couple days later. --- Thanks Amazon ! --- I'VE SEEN THE TRAILER AND IT LOOKS VERY GOOD. -- I can't wait to rewatch this great film when its released in Hi-Def. in early September. ---- 2ND UPDATE --- I Finally found time to watch my new restored Kino Blu-ray. --- It looks more like the film I saw at the Theater back in 1982 when it was released. -- When watching it keep in mind that the original source material was pretty good but its not going to look like a film shot in 2020. -- Also I noticed some jitter in the beginning and some sections of the print were a little fuzzier than I would have liked but all in all I was thrilled to see the print look so good. -- Also I enjoyed finding the nice special features such as film & restoration commentary as well as interviews. Keep in mind that the original director died many years ago and Farnsworth died in 2017. --- Still we are now left with a Great gem. --- IMO the Blu-ray of this great film is a bargain for $20. --- SO ENJOY EVERYONE ( :

Very entertaining. Love the old time westerns. Highly recommended.

Improved video resolution of a classic Canadian historical film, but there are still glitches such as a significant jitter in the opening sequences. No excuse for that in a blu-ray production. Grit your teeth until you get past it and the rest of the film is as rewarding as ever. Phenomenal visuals and very good acting. Its not an accurate history of Bill Miner, but its a good story to watch. Too bad it didn’t get the same attention to the blu-ray as Hollywood productions. We waited a long time for this upgraded version, sad its not all it could have been.

And it shows all the beauty of British Columbia and every crag and crease in Richard Farnsworth's expressive face. What a great actor, so little used or recognized over his film career, starring in this great Canadian north-western. How about a double feature with this film followed up by the "The Straight Story"? Reward yourself.A little movie trivia: Harry Dean Stanton was originally slated to play Bill Miner, but due to a conflict had to bow out - not before recommending Richard Farnsworth for the role in his stead. The two would later appear as brothers in "The Straight Story" - a relationship that one might well imagine was very close to real life.

Just a magnificent movie in every respect!as far as I'm concerned the best movie ever put out of Canada, worth every penny and a timeless gem to watch on the home theater many many times!!

Great film with Richard Farnsworth particularly good.

There is so much I could say about this movie but I won't. A Canadian film released in 1982 based on the later life of a bankrobber. The script, the photography, the direction, the music, the acting, all are first class. It is a period piece set around the early 20th century. This special edition version is the very first time it has been released on dvd. I have no idea why the long wait but it is worth it. There are literally thousands of people the world over who have been longing for its release onto dvd. I am so pleased to be able to buy this now.

この映画LDソフトは持っています。愛蔵版です。今日までブルーレイはおろか、DVDさえもソフト化されていませんでした。ここに来てやっとブルーレイソフト化(海外版で日本語字幕無し)され、この喜びは筆や言葉では尽くされません。4Kレストアによる映像は大変クリアで大満足です。ただ、LDジャケットの裏に「劇場公開版(スタンダードサイズ)で収録しています。」と記述されていたのですが、このソフトは 1:1.85(アメリカンビスタ)にて収録されている事が少々残念です。特典映像を見ますとかなり引いて撮影されていて、通常のスーパー35のように上下のトリミングではない様です。ここはひとつ、キングレコードさんにご登場願って【最終盤】と銘打って「劇場公開版スタンダードサイズ」と「アメリカンビスタサイズ」の2バージョンを収録して、チラシやパンフレットの縮小印刷物も同梱して頂けれは最高に幸せです。
