It's straightforward, friendly, conversational, and easy to understand. He bases his advice on real life experience, which is a huge plus. He's not offering theoretical advice that "should" work here, he's offering his recommendations based on what he's tried and what he's seen work well.If you want to help make our country, your state, your county, or even your town better and want to run for office, this really is the place to start.

This is a book for elected officials, people that want to be an elected official, and maybe more importantly, for non-elected staff in the public sector (municipal, county, regional, state and federal levels) that work with and take direction from elected officials or governing boards made up of elected officials. Its pragmatic advice and real-world narrative is non-partisan even though the writer is a Republican (I am a lifelong Democrat having lived nearly all of my life in Maryland (Anne Arundel and Montgomery Counties)). Staff people who may be subject matter experts in various aspects of supporting governments can learn how tough it is to win elected office, and why elected official approach issues the way that they do.

I really like how the book was written in sections. It made for easy reading and tabbing and going back and looking when things cross-referenced. It expressed the importance of several facets of campaign, from early organization, the campaign manager, a good treasurer, and overall general volunteers of all ages. The importance of getting to the people who vote, "people who vote vote people who do not do not." If you take nothing else away from the book that alone will save you thousands of dollars on a mailing.It also indicated there were areas that it did not go into deep depth and suggested other secondary sources which were also helpful. No one book can teach you how to run a campaign. This book, however, can certainly make a huge difference on how you move forward or if you decide to move forward. I would recommend this book to nearly anyone who is running from anything from the school sport with seven or 800 voters in the district to state how selection and even perhaps a congressional election. The author, "Ken" Reid sets you up for success with this well written and easy to apply manual for running a successful campaign. His approach and directive has a common-sense approach that is easy to overlook in one's overzealous focus to rein victorious. When running for office you encounter experts on every aspect of running for office and often times these experts have been involved in running campaigns, fundraising , etc for so many years that they forget, as a newcomer, the need for common sense guidance and basic explanations. This book provides behind the scenes details that often times go unsaid.If running for public office is in your future, buying this book is your first step.
