Great starter equipment for general exercises and development..
Although this is clearly entry-level equipment, I do believe it provides enough functionality for me to get into shape in a general sense, and will prepare me for more advanced gear in the future. For the price and the features it's definitely worth it, I wanted something with all the parts in the right place, and this serves the purpose. The only downside (which appears to be an issue with other similar devices) is the manual training required for use, and the lack of clear documentation regarding how this should be approached...I stumbled across an entire industry devoted to selling just the instructions..The kit came with a user manual for assembly, but no particular directions for actual use. I looked online and it seems some training is required in order to correctly operate the appliance. On the bright side, it seems that most similar devices are designed to be operator-compatible, so I've just been following instructions as advised. The audio cues are helpful in coordinating the exercise routine (apparently, steady reps are a big thing), however, the physical device itself works just fine with the pads alone. NOTE: I have noticed that exercising along with some type of music helps to establish a solid recurring temporal pattern, and this is similar to playing along with the metronome function (my treadmill had a similar MPH setting).I did find that duct-taping everything to one consistent spot helped to anchor the setup...once everything is in place and locked down and tightened up (and foot-pedals not sliding around) it's all solid.

Can't go wrong for the price.
I was most surprised with the mounting pieces for this kit, they are really good quality. Not a hard plastic like I assumed. Once it's all mounted and tightened down it doesn't move or wobble around at all. Toms and snare sound great, volume of sound depending on how hard you hit. Bass pedal is great. Symbols are alright, I noticed you get more of a stronger sound from hitting more towards the middle of the symbol as oppose to hitting the edge as I seem to naturally aim for. My biggest complaint is probably the high hat pedal. Most of the time I just have the high hat pedal compressed, but if I try to get fancy with opening and closing it, I find it's not very realistic. It's more of a "button" as oppose to recognizing you're partially opening and closing the high hat, or are doing it quickly. But again, for the price, this is a minor complaint especially for a beginner player (like me) who 99% of the time just keeps it closed or open all the time.Overall: for the price you pay, you can't go wrong; it's a really nice kit. With the exception of the high hat pedal you really can't complain, great sound and quality build. Personally, I am using this kit as my introduction to drumming. If I don't stick with it, I'm not out much. Or if I decide to keep going, I'm going to want to upgrade anyway, so it's a win-win either way in my opinion.

Good for an apartment, good for a beginner
Drums sound OK. Most of the techno sounds are goofy. The high hat sound is too low and gets drowned out by the sound of the sticks hitting the plastic.

Works awesome. My 9 year old and myself both love playing them. Takes about 30 min to set up. Only thing I wish they had would be a built in digital recorder.

Mostly disappointed
Ok, first off I am not a professional or even experienced drummer (I can keep a beat). I read all the other reviews on the ddrum and other sets in the similar price range. Here is my take:Why I chose ddrum: because if the variable hi-hat and the fact that it had a true bass pad rather than a trigger like most of the others.Pros: 1) many reviewers state that the assembly was hard. If you have ever used a planogram or built DIY furniture or even built a Lego set, you will be fine. Assembling took about 1/2 hour from open box to play. The only complaint is that IMO the wires are too long necessitating that I wrap and route them around the frame several times for a clean look. 2) each pad has a separate wire. Thus, if a wire breaks or fails you do not have to replace an entire loom. (Alesis uses a loom as I recall). The only issue is that the wires have a 1/4 plug on one end and a 1/8 on the other. Therefore if you used a generic patch cord (in the event of failure) you would need an adapter). 3) the pads have good response and bounce. Drum rolls were easy. 4) independent volume for each pad. This is important as the hi-hat in default overwhelms the other sounds. Had to turn the hi-hat way down.Cons: as others have stated, there are serious issues with the controller. I experienced all of the issues that others have claimed 1) ghosting, 2) missed hits 3) lock up. Most annoyingly the hi-hat is virtually non-responsive. Keep in mind I spent a bit more for the "variable" hi-hat. This was very disappointing. Also the kick pedal is slow, it was very hard to play 1/4 and 1/8 note beats as the return spring is not tight enough. In the end I decided to return the set. I am disappointed because I had high hopes for the ddrum. I will be purchasing the alesis as soon as my refund processes and will post a review for that.

This set was terrible.. It sounded like it was going to break in two every time i played. I had it about 6 months and wanted to burn it since day 1.
