Excellent Loppers - really pleased with my choice
I previously had an anvil loppers that was very similar in style to the "S & J Razorsharp Advance Heavy Duty Telescopic Ratchet Anvil Lopper" but from Aldi. This worked a treat for many years until the blade broke. I was almost set on getting the S&J loppers above as it would be a direct known good replacement but decided to take a chance on this one instead. One of the big draws for me was it indicated that it could cut up to 60 mm branches. and I'm pretty sure it did. I tried it out the day I got it. Its very sharp and cuts really cleanly and a branch that was about 60 mm or maybe even a bit more (didn't think to take a picture). Now it doesn't have telescopic handles like my previous loppers but its handles are reasonably long which gives plenty of leverage. The ratchet mechanism is very smooth and the great advantage of it compared to my old one is that you don't have to open the handles wide in order to get it to ratchet to the next setting. Great when you're literally in the thick of it. The other thing that I found good was being able to switch it to non ratchet mode, basically it allows you to cut small branch with just a regular cutting motion. My old one just did ratchet mode and cutting small stuff and having to ratchet the cutter repeatedly to get down to it was a pain - in fact I usually switched to using a seceteurs but that could be a strain.Anyway I'm really impressed with this loppers and its also my first time purchasing something made by Davaon. I have to say this looks well built and I think will last the test of time.

Razor Sharp
These loppers are just the trick. They cope with both smaller and larger branches well, thanks to the 2 cutting options, and all of the cuts I've made with them so far have been absolutely effortless. They are lightweight in the handles, making them easy to manoeuvre and use for long periods, but strong and heavy duty in the head to mean they should stand up to years of use. I'm pleased with my purchase and would recommend these to anyone in need of a decent set of loppers.

In my hands, lacks durability
Persuaded by the more glowing reviews, I purchased these loppers as I thought being able to switch the ratchetting function on and off could be useful, and the claimed 60mm capacity suggests a stronger mechanism.I used the loppers to trim buddlea bushes in need of their autumn prune back. This included both green and dead wood. They made relatively short work of this task, but in common with several other designs, I sometime found it difficult to open the jaws wide enough to insert the branch, as the handles needed to very wide apart, which made manouvering the cutting blades into position tricky. After a couple of hours use, I took a break, and noticed that the wire loop that holds the blades closed was missing, and the plastic red knob that switched the ratchetting mechanism on and off had sheared off. The knob could still be moved between the on and off position, but....!As they had not been subjected to any abuse or heavy handling I decided I had seen enough, and have returned them for a refund. I accept they were still useable, but not being able to hold the blades closed is an obvious safety issue. I am now trying a different brand purchased from our local horticultural supplier.

Up to the job.
I was drawn the claim that these seem to be the only loppers that can cut through 60mm branches, and most of the shrubs in my garden have 59mm branches. A little fiddly to open all the way, but they worked. Pretty tough going, but it handled it though the handles felt just a little soft. Good cut, and cannot really expect any more in this price range. Would like a pair with telescopic handles, please?

Almost effortless pruning of thick branches
We have a pair of loppers that were very good for branches up to about 1" - but we needed something a lot bigger stronger (for some branches of 2.5" thick). After reading positive reviews of the Davaon Pro, with its ratcheting cutting power, we bought a pair. Good decision. An old retired chap like me was able to cut through the branches with relative ease. A powerful friend, and a fraction of the cost of "getting someone in" to do the required job.

Very poor
On my first attempt to cut a medium branch the safety catch came apart and I spent several minutes trying to find it in the landscape bark! The second cut and the whole thing flayed apart as the bolts on the blades etc were obviously loose and I spent time once again looking for those. I obviously put them back into the box and requested a return. Shocking quality control and for the safety catch to come off straight away, it looked cheaply put together. I've bought loppers from the high Street and they haven't done this after years of use!

Good customer service
On first use the safety clip fell off (still works but it just means the handles are a bit further apart when you store them).Customer Service were very quick to send a replacement with no argument so I was impressed by that (although I was only after a replacement clip rather than the complete loppers!)You have to open the handles almost to 180 degrees to get the jaws fully open - but of course it means you have more power because of the gearing so that is a good trade off most of the time.

Buy them! Well worth it!
These loppers are magic! Well made and sturdy, definitely built for the job! I am pruning a Hawthorne hedge and these get through those thick branches really well. Just remember to get the branch right at the base of the cutting blades before you start cutting, with the power switch pressed ‘On’ and the ratchet comes into action with successive opening and closing of the loppers to allow the Rachet to engage and cut further until you are through the branch. Well worth buying.
