7 years going strong
We purchased this pole 7 years ago for our Bird’s Choice aluminum 8 compartment house. We get high winds here and it has held up very well. We just purchased another one for an additional house and it seems to be of the same quality so far. Because the aluminum houses are lightweight, it is easy to raise and lower the house with the telescoping feature of the pole.

Stout & child's play to assemble
Pretty ingenious using the t-nuts to assemble: they work. I guess some people struggle to take the wrapper off a piece of chewing gum. These poles are stout. I nest them further for even more strength against high winds & besides the purple martins are fine with 10' tall. Also, I use tractor clips to hold the poles together instead of the supplied bolts: easier to remove to lower the house. Also, so what if the top is a little cocked 5 degrees? These are birds for Christ's sake, they are accustomed to swaying in the breeze, crooked limbs of a tree, etc.

Very Sturdy!
Very sturdy pole for the metal purple martin house. Easy to set up with a manual post hoe digger and some concrete. I left some room below ground level to pack in some rocks, so I can place a cover (plastic cap from a spray paint can) over the anchor tube in the off season, so it stays clean. It has handled the wind very well so far, except it did sometimes turns at the anchor tube. Duct tape to the rescue (again, I left some room around the tube for the cap and it was sufficient room for the tape). It is very easy to raise the pole up and down once you get use to the system of thumb screws. Just don't over loosen and loose the parts. 12 foot pole is a very suitable height for the purple martins if you don't have a tall trees close to the house.

Worth the money
Getting Martin condo ready for occupancy was much easier with the pole assembly.

DANGER!
I’m furious. I’ve had several Purple Martin poles and this is by FAR the worst one. I wish I had read more of the negative reviews. I bought it because I bought a new birds choice Martin house (btw, I’m not happy with that house either) & this was the compatible pole. First, the directions are terrible. Second, the“pins/screws” that hold the poles in place are so awkward that I was scared they would fall through the inside the pole and forever be lost. I’ve NEVER seen a poorer construction of a supposed telescopic pole. There are holes in the bottom and middle poles for screws but no holes in the top pole which alone is what holds the birdhouse. This is so dangerous. Purple Martin poles should be easily telescopic just like every other pole I’ve had before. It SHOULD be a one person job to lower and raise. This design makes me completely baffled that the designer of this pole seems to not realize what it means to be a purple Martin “landlord.” Purple Martin nests require frequent checks. I recently set up the pole and put it up, I had one helper with me to help bring it up. A week later we decided to try to bring it down to open more houses in the birdhouse, and this is where the design is more than flawed. After removing the middle screw, in a split second, the top section of the pole slammed down with the weight of the empty birdhouse hitting my helper in the head and slicing a cut in the palm of my hand. We both ended up shocked and bloody. What happens when the Martin house has nests and baby birds? How much faster and harder will it slam? I have to start figuring out how I can make this usable for this season. This is not a cheap pole. This is actually among the most expensive. After putting this in the ground in cement it’s obviously not returnable. If the makers see this review, please do the right thing and remove this product and get back to the drawing board. Do the right thing and find a solution before someone gets severely injured.

is not compatible with a Heath house
Recently, I ordered my seventh Heath martin house. In the past, i have used an extension pole made by Heath. If you do not oil the connection points regularly (which i am guilty of doing), the Heath pole pieces will rust and make it impossible to lower and raise the house. For that reason, i looked at this pole when it showed up in the "Buy it with" link on the Amazon site. I liked it because of the bolts that are used to lower or raise the house. I am very satisfied with the quality and weight of this pole, but the 1 1/4" extension at the top is only about 2 1/2" long. A two story Heath house needs about 17". I was able to make my own extension, but that was more trouble than i expected and time wasted. If i need another pole for a Heath house, I will simply order the one made by Heath (and hopefully do a better job of regular maintenance).

Martin house pole
It works well and has held up to some pretty high sustained winds. It’s relatively easy to raise and lower. It’s a cheaper alternative to the more expensive telescoping ones.

Easy to install and put together.
This is a very sturdy pole, easy to work with. Use with Bird's Choice houses! The house comes with a very sturdy base that fits into the pole and locks with a screw and nut. You don't need to buy another base plate. This pole also comes with a sleeve to insert in the ground. Put gravel then the sleeve, level, add dry concrete around sleeve as directed, add water and let set overnight. Pole slides right in and stops at a good level to keep it from moving in the wind.

Its a pole
Easy to put together but digging to hole, mixing enough the concrete to fill the hole as per instructions and leveling it was a bit of a pain with a small wheel barrow. :)
