15 best performances of Ed Sullivan
This DVD presents 15 performances (10 in color, 5 in black and white) selected from the Ed Sullivan Show aired at different times in 1950's and 60's. The performers are, in the order of appearance, Jackson 5(with 10 year old Michael!), Bill Haley and His Comets, Elvis Presley, Doors, Ray Charles, Jackie Wilson, James Brown, Roy Orbison, Beatles, Temptations and Supremes, Loving Spoonful, Mamas and Papas, CCR, Young Rascals, and Janis Joplin. Each performance is a gem(with a possible exception of one which appears to be lip-synced); the DVD could very well be called "the 15 best performances of Ed Sullivan". The picture quality is excellent, and the sound clean and good. The commentary by Michelle Phillips of the Mamas and the Papas is concise and yet helpful. So, why not 5 stars? There are only 15 songs, one each by the above 15 performers. Granted that this DVD is priced a little lower than others, the entire show is only 50 minutes. By the time it ended, I felt that I had seen only the first half of it.

lots of music memories
Love any program with oldies. This one was very good but not the best.Would give it 4 stars as not the most professionaly done. But very enjoyable though. Will watch it probably 2 times a year.Lots of 60's and 70's bands that are fun to watch.Would recommend it.

Memories are great!!!
This video brought back great memories of as a child sitting in front of the TV with my parents watching "The Ed Sullivan Show". It was something we looked forward to all week. Being a budding teenager at the time, I looked forward to the new and stirring musical acts that appeared weekly, listening to my parents make comments about the way they dressed or the length of their hair and thinking how I wanted to play music. The Beatles appearance on the show inspired me to take up playing the guitar and I rocked the house until Mom siad "Turn it down". The only thing missing was Topo Giggoio saying "Kees me gooo night Eddie" at the end!

It tell you much
I have heard much of the same before. Many of these groups had strarted after Buddy Holly. It's like it just exploded into existence. The Beatles gave a lot of credit to him. The Rock and Roll revolution actually began with him, and then the music died. The whole thing just started with them is the impression that one comes away with. The Beatles themselves mentioned him a lot. All that was needed was to say something like this "After the death of Buddy Holly,a new sound hit the airways". His name didn't come up even once. They hinted at him but that is all.

The 16 outtakes are great and so is the commentary!
I love the commentary by Michelle Phillips (formerly of the Mama's and Papa's) and the other guy too. It would have been nice to get a DV of just the performances too. I wish they had something like that for sale. All in all, very informative. I'm shocked at how dumb we all looked back then. But the music is burned into our brains - those of us about 50 anyway.

Temptations/Supremes Diana/David duet
Wow, this is a must to have, not only because it has The Beatles, The Doors, James Brown, Jackie Wilson, Bill Haley and the Comets, Janis Joplin and an innocent Jackson 5 (plus more) but it has The Temptations and Supremes on stage together. What really is the best is the lead singers of the Supremes, Diana Ross, and the lead singer of the Temptations, David Ruffin, doing a duet of each other's songs and David blows Diana off the stage. Great stuff.

Rock 'N' Roll Forever: Ed Sullivan's Greatest Hits
Fun and interesting. Well worth the money. It's not nearly as interesting to those that did not experience the era.
