I've had this for just under a week now and have used it on three difference occasions.On inspection, it is very well made and compares equally to leading brands (I also own a Weber chimney starter). The design is a simple as other brands and the spacing of the air holes is similar, which leads to the internal temperature of the chimney climbing quickly - perfect for getting your coals up to temperature quickly.I've tested this on two main different type of BBQ applications in a standard kettle BBQ:1) A long 10 hour brisket smoke, using the snake method (double layered coals surrounding 270 degrees of the rim of your kettle BBQ. Lighting this, and using the vent controls with the lid on and a thermometer, you can control the burn of the coals and wood chips to create a smoke effect over a long period of time). Why does this differ from using the BBQ in the traditional method? The Chimney Starter is only used for 5-6 coals (added to the start of the 'snake' to get it going), which reduces the total surface area in the Starter, which would normally mean the coals will be harder to get going - however, it worked fine with just newspaper at the base of the Starter;2) A simple half and half technique (coals loads on one 1/2 of the BBQ for charring, with the other half empty for cooking meat through). In this method you load the Chimney Starter up with plenty of coals - which again, with only a couple of pieces of newspaper scrunched at the bottom, worked a treat.Summary - Excellent piece of equipment. Great saving vs leading brands. Well constructed. Will light small and large amount of coals with minimum effort.

Well made and easy to assemble tge handle with two nuts and bolts. Works like a charm. One natural firelighter underneath or some screwed up newspaper and it's away, coming up to grey ash over charcoal within 15 minutes. Save money on smelly expensive lighting fluid or parrafin firelighters. No need to fill to the brim as its quite big, just light what you need it doesn't matter how much you use. Do not use with charcoal which has impregnated lighter fluid in it though.

This chimney works surprisingly well, I was skeptical and expected it to just be a hassle which was not worth the effort.Literally just throw some coals in there and some firefighters and then use a good jet lighter to set them aflame, it will heat the coals up in record time, ensuring good white coals ready to cook on in 30 minutes instead of 1+ hours.It is basic in looks but it’s not intended to look good, it’s made to make it easy to add a quarter of a bag of coal (about as much as it would hold) and then use the holes to easily light it.Save your sanity and your friendships with this charcoal chimney, only thing which knocks it down a point is it really doesn’t work with hardwood.

Haven't used it yet but it's got great build quality for the price. But also rating highly as I've had a great response from the seller after one of the nuts and bolts was missing. It happens but they've responded to me quickly and arranged for a replacement to be sent

This is the first time I've used a chimney to light up coal and it's literally blown my mind how quick and simple the process is! I can't recommend this enough. Box was damaged on arrival however the product itself was absolutely fine. If you haven't used a chimney before you're missing out!! Took around 10 minutes what normally takes me 20-30 minutes!!

Gets the coals hot really quickly and a decent product.

Ok, so making a good coal kettle isn't rocket science but this one works very well, has held up all summer through many uses and the handles make manipulating it very easy even with red hot coals. The plastic handle does get uncomfortably hot if not using gloves but that is to be expected.

Product works as expected, although handle did get hotter than expected and needed gloves. More expensive ones may have better insulation.Packaging was poor, just being a simple cardboard box and no padding. Hence item was slightly squashed upon arrival and grid that supports the coals was bent. Could possibly have bent it back, although it did seem to work OK without. Just need to take more care when shipping.
