This will give you a sharp knife. I go to my daughters house and her blades are flat. The butter knife is sharper. So to keep myself from being seriously injured, I got her this sharpener. It starts from a very dull knife to a sharp blade. If you’re looking for a high grade sharpening you need stones. For your kitchen knifes, if you’re not a chef, this will do the job and more. 5 blades straight up!

OK, I know sharpening: Japanese water stones and all. As a woodworker doing much lathe work, kept my gouges razor sharp with a low rpm, water-cooled 12” stone always at the ready. For twenty years, it’s been ceramic rods for the kitchen knives.This device is not put quite the same edga on as my rods. But, it is close. And,is so easy and convenient to use that I will use it every week rather than the monthly hassle with the rods. Result, on any average day, my kitchen knives are sharper.Those ceramic rods had to be replaced periodically and they are not cheap. With some regret, realize they will now only come out when the much/less-used serrated blades need attention.Tried the sharpener with cut-above-department-store-quality Henkels and Henkels a couple of notches above that. Same satisfactory results. Stable on a granite countertop; glove seemed unnecessary.

The product was excellent and very useful

I got this for my husband‘s birthday and he thinks it’s great. He said after about 50 passes his knife was super sharp like new.

American knives are wider and Japanese knives are thinner. This sharpener is more for an American knife and will take time for my Japanese knives to eventually hone to this sharpener. It’s a pain to keep pulling your whetstone to sharpen your kitchen knives. Though this makes it very simple to use, it takes time and practice for different style blades. Excellent choice for American style knives, not so good on Japanese style knives.

The instructions are a little skimpy but there's not much too it. Hold the knife steady at a 90 degree angle in the slot starting with the blade area closest to the handle. Put a little downward pressure on it and pull toward you until the knife tip drops out. My knives were really dull so I had to do that about 15 times in the first slot and about 10 times each in the second and third slots. The knife edge collects a fine dark dust that I wiped off with the glove supplied. It's not obvious how you're supposed to "clear" the sharpener as instructed after use. I banged it softly against the sink edge and nothing much came out. My knives came out sharp and ready for anything. I'm every satisfied.

This is a high-quality daily honing tool that I use for keeping my kitchen knives sharp. Packaging is exceptional, and added value with a cover for the steel and wipe rag for any loose remains on the knife after use. It even came with a wall mount holder, all neatly packaged in a round cardboard tube. Very sturdy, great handle and grip, and sufficiently long enough for safety purposes. All of this at a great price.

This is nice for how quick and easy it is to use. I still find myself going back to traditional style stones to get anything sharp though. It's good for family members who never sharpen anything.

Asked by a family member for a sharpener to sharpen a cutlass. As this was being set abroad had to make a choice and this seemed ideal. I have given it a 5 star based on the packaging but unable to comment on its usage but cannot see that there will be a problem.
