They are softer with the sheep skin and seem to protect the heel fine for me. But my is a before there are problems thing. I have had ulcers in the past, (I am diabetic) and seem to need to sleep in the heel protectors, when I go without them for a few days my legs and heel start a familiar soreness that tells me to put them back on ASAP.
