Review: WONDERFUL GIFT! - I got this for my sibling for their 39th birthday. We are both in our 30s, both with some technical/engineering backgrounds, and both softies for cute things. This kit delivers on all fronts! The directions are incredibly clear, informative, and adorable! The kit itself is easy to navigate, had all the components plus extras, and seemed very well-made. The process of making the instrument was easy to follow, included milestones where we would test it to ensure it was working, and was fun! It took about 20 minutes to build, but could be done faster if you're reading from the initial diagrams. It works! If I were to have any qualms about it, it is that the range where the pitches change is relatively small - but that is to be expected for an instrument of this size. You can fit 2 octaves in about 4 inches on a violin and it is no different here, it just requires more practice and attention to detail if you're planning on playing any specific melodies. As far as a sound-effects device though, it is *very* fun, very sci-fi, and quite expressive! It is also fairly loud, the volume control antenna works well, and it is just a blast to experiment with! We had a great time with Micro and Tick and highly recommend this to nerds, geeks, and everyone else looking to have a bit of noisy fun! Great job, Dave!
Review: Quick and easy! Long lasting fun. - I bought this as a stocking stuffer for my son (12). We put together the device yesterday afternoon. It was a lot of fun! The directions were easy to follow and very detailed. It explains what is used and why in a way that can be easily understood. There are a couple extra parts included just in case you bend a wire out of shape or lose one. The kit also includes directions if you're missing a piece or lose/break one for a free replacement if needed. The kit also includes 3 AA batteries and the beloved On/Off switch on the battery pack. My advice would be to take your time if working with a child. My tween and I put together this kit but I feel like he could have easily done it by himself following the directions included. I'd say it took less than 15 minutes to put together, testing along the way per the kit directions. We've both spent sometime playing with the finished product. Even the cat involved herself with a briefly misplaced tail. My kiddo and I highly suggest this kit for geeky tweens/teens/adults and technology/music curious younger kiddos with adult supervision and support. The kit is safe for small children with guidance and an understanding to NOT unplug things or move them on the board. I would not let a younger child use/handle the finished product without supervision. Lots of tiny parts that could be damaged or lost. Warning: It is fairly loud and DOES take some time to figure out proper hand movements! Be prepared to make some noise! : )

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is there an audio out jack? Or would it be easy enough to make one from an old cable and connect it somehow to this for audio out?**
A: There is an included speaker but no included audio out jack. However, some of our customers have connected their theremin to an external amp or synthesizer. You can cut up an old cable or buy on audio plug to bare wire cable. Then, you could connect the negative (black) wire to ground and the other wire to point 16B on the breadboard, the output of the amplifying transistor. This modification isn't officially supported, and you may need to use a preamp or series bypass capacitor to get it working how you want. But it's possible with a bit of tinkering.

**Q: How many octaves does it cover? Can the pitch be changed to higher or lower range**
A: It can go from C4 to C6 (Two Octaves), and there's not a built in way to change octave range.

**Q: Can it be taken apart and put back together? Would like to use it with more than one class/studebt.**
A: Yes, very easy to take it all apart and repeat the process. Be careful of bending the wires too often because the metal will eventually break. Just be aware and you should be fine.

**Q: Can I use a 5v usb cable to power if i add a resistor to the led?**
A: Creator of the circuit here. I wouldn't recommend externally powering this theremin, because the separate power line would add more capacitance to the circuit. External power would be like having another object near the antenna, which would hurt the sensitivity of the system.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Quality!

We built this as a family and even my teenager loved working in it. The instructions were easy to follow and had a lot of good information. The components were high quality and easy to assemble. A couple extras were included for the wires, which was nice. The final theremin works well and is fun to play. Will definitely be buying more kits for us and to give as gifts!
