Doug and Abi and their three children travel to the Scottish Highlands for Doug's father Gordie's birthday party. It's soon clear that when it comes to keeping a secret under wraps from the rest of the family, their children are their biggest liability...

kids have to be the grownups when the adults are dysfunctional
Precocious little kid makes more sense than any of the adults. Good story with bigger message.

Incredibly funny yet realistic
Loved this movie with so many British actors we are familiar with, great humor, beautiful Scottish scenery, and a life lesson. The children in the story have such funny explanations, quite realistic for their ages... Heart-warming, sad, surprising, hilarious, memorable - all at the same time.

Great 👍 movie, very funny, but also serious.
This movie is a keeper. I watched it on TV, and liked it so much, I ordered it on DVD, to keep. The 3 children were very very funny. The movie had a serious side to it, also. Good 👍 price.. Tim

Within the first few minutes of this movie, I was laughing
Little bits of all of us are portrayed in this comedic look at the eccentric foibles of humans and their relationships. If this movie doesn't bring a smile to your heart, it will at least put a smile on your face.

Remarkable and beautiful; A Must
The title and art work suggest a low ball frat house film and instead we find a classy, moving, coming of age film that covers life transitions for virtually all ages. Billy Connolly's performance is nothing short of brilliant and his character acts as a centering beauty for all the challenges that seem to make life difficult. Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin get most of the credit. Together they wrote and directed this masterpiece. Doug McLeod (David Tennant) and his wife Abi (Rosamund Pike) unite following a tense separation to travel to the Scottish Highlands for Doug's father Gordie's (Billy Connolly) birthday. Gordie has terminal cancer so Doug's brother, millionaire Gavin McLeod (Ben Miller) has arranged a lavish party for him, inviting all the important people in the neighbourhood. Despite difficulties getting their three children, Lottie (Emilia Jones), Mickey (Bobby Smalldridge), and Jess (Harriet Turnbull), to leave the house, they hit the road, but find it congested and they are forced to stop overnight. Lottie expresses her troubles with trusting her parents following their recent separation and lies to each other; it is revealed that Doug had an affair, which led to Abi moving out and taking legal proceedings against him. They are only travelling to the Highlands together to appear as a couple for Gordie, not wanting to upset him in his final months. There is vast tension between the "adults" while Gordie, solidly at peace with himself helps the children to grow in ways that no one would expect yet no one could condemn. Filmed in Scotland, with art direction that parallels "Out Of Africa" this film is a must. It's funny, moving, familiar and deserves your eye.

Turned it off
This movie tries so hard to embrace everything wrong with modern family life. Arguing divorcing parents, precocious kids that hide the adult's keys for a laugh, aging father trying to be a teenager. Not for me.

Ragazzini formidabili
Una storia inverosimile raccontata con grande umorismo e tenerezza. I ragazzini recitano meglio degli adulti e sono adorabili. Alcune battute sono memorabili, un film che non può mancare in una videoteca moderna

What We Did On Our Holiday
I love it. The film is wonderful and I needing this film in English V.O. I adore all their actors. Specially Ben Miller.

Nice movie! Plot is good
Nice movie! Plot is good. Parents be aware of your conduct at home and pay attention to things that matter is the message from the movie. All actors have done justice to their roles. Kids and Grandpa steal the show though.
