Enjoyable for those of us of a certain age range!
I like Jimmy Edwards and saw the original 'Wacko' series on BBC TV in those long gone black and white days where the character was brought to us with Jim as Professor Edwards of Chislebury School so to see this after some years brought a bit of the fun back as this was basically a rival to the St. Trinians films of the day - the REAL ones of years gone by and not the 'modern' things - but from the schoolboy side as it were. One point is, and I mentioned this fact in another 'old film' review, that nowadays it seems to 'enhance' the box cover illustration, there seems to be a tendency to include an image of the female form clad in stockings and suspenders but in reality no such scene is in the film - unless I blinked of course... - and might upset those with high expectations:) Overall, I enjoyed it and will gladly sit through it again and based on so many repeats on the TV these days, will be doing so quite soon!

A Timeless Classic
I saw this film at the age of 14, on ITV. Back in the days when the UK only had four terrestrial channels and nothing else. The film is an UnPC piece of UK cinema chaos, and in many ways was a boys own version of the original St Trinnians films. - Which is one of the reasons I love it so much. To get a copy on DvD like this is finding and purchasing cinematic treasure, and the screen quality and sound is marvelous. If you remember this film and love it as I do - don't hesitate to get it.

Bottoms Up!(1960)
This is the film version of the earlier BBC TV series, Whack-o! starring comedian Jimmy Edwards and Leslie Howard's brother Arthur Howard. Jimmy was head of a boys' school and Arthur was his deputy head. The idea of the titles was the eager JImmy using a walking stick cane to whack the posteriors of supposed "naughty" boys. Not sure why the renamed the film Bottoms Up as the TV series was hugely popular in UK and Australia. Unfortunately the BBC has scrapped most of their Telerecordings(kinescopes) of this series. There is one on You Tube but this has little to do with the school and the boys but rather the masters having a night out at a night club.I have waited a long time for this film to be released and I was not disappointed. These are characters from my early TV viewing, a new medium then in Australia, when I was a child.

Six of the best
This is a great piece of nostalgia for people of a certain age. I can remember watching Whacko! As a child, and Jimmy Edwards was certainly exactly as I remember him. The DVD is a fine quality print of the film and I cannot fault it. One little detail which previous buyers have failed to mention in their reviews is the identity of the main boy character Wendover. A very young John Mitchell, better known as future Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell. Not a bad little actor too.

Great fun!
I remember enjoying this at the cinema, having followed Whack-O on tv so it's nice to have it on dvd in this beautifully clear transfer. For those with politically correct "concerns" - don't worry. Jimmy Edwards never actually uses his whippy cane - just bends it into an attractive arc occasionally. The film as a whole is recommended. As I say in my title ... great fun!

It is still a pretty enjoyable farce that is really a vehicle for Jimmy ...
I remember watching this on TV as a boy and enjoying it. It is still a pretty enjoyable farce that is really a vehicle for Jimmy Edwards and his considerable comic talents. if you enjoyed it first time round worth another look if you find yourself at a loose end on a rainy afternoon.

Nostalgic but not entirely for the right reasons
I felt the need to add this British curiosity to my collection because I remember going to see it withmy younger brother whom I still miss.Jimmy Edwards was a household name in the 1950’s with hisvery popular radio series ‘Take it From Here’ so his casting as the cane-happy headmaster seemedtotally appropriate. However my own high school days were marred by unnecessary corporal punishmentand “Bottoms Up!” only gets a few chuckles out of me now.Pristine picture quality and familiar supportingplayers will please many people.Usual first class service and delivery from Amazon gets my thanks.
