This is a beautifully bound hardback book. It is exactly as described: each page has a four-character proverb translated literally and figuratively from Chinese as well as the story that goes with the saying.

These books look even better in person. I gave this copy as a gift but have The Art of War displayed in my home. They make for interesting coffee table pieces or, for language learners, the English / Chinese format is well done and useful. Enjoy!

I like this book allot. The binding is unique and pretty. The included Cheng Yu are fun to browse and learn about.

My granddaughter was overwhelmed with delight, especially since she is fluent in Mandarin.

This is a lovely hard back book with a black cord embellishment on the spine. 90 heavy weight paper pages of sayings, with 2 pages bound together. The characters are written with 4 large characters 5 cm tall to a page, with their literal meanings and idiomatc explanations, plus a short description of the original stories to make sense of the proverb.Please note they are Traditional Characters.NB: Cherished Chinese Proverbs by Hongchen Wang and Dana Risley gives a bilingual retelling of ancient stories in Simplified Chinese.

It has the most beautiful cover and it feels expensive as the materials used are definitely good quality. I think this is gerat as a gift. I wish that there was more explanations and stories about each proverb, but that is subjective. I really enjoyed reading it and now I am the annoying friend that quotes chinese proverbs randomly during conversations! Delivery was fine. Highly recommend.

Already read few pages. Each page is made of a double-layer, each Chengyu is filled with an interesting back story. Would 100% make a perfect gift for someone learning (traditional) Chinese characters!
