Chances are you're going to be using these filters in an espresso machine, in which case I would wholeheartedly recommend them. I don't claim that they make any sort of difference as far as the taste of the espresso is concerned. However, I think that they can extend the life of your espresso machine and reduce the frequency of descaling. These filters are completely optional; your machine is designed to work perfectly without any sort of water filtering. However, I've found that using water filters and changing them every 2 months means that I almost never have to descale my espresso machine. It's good to descale your machine when it needs it, but it's even better not to let scale take hold in the first place! Because one package of filters will last you a full year, I think they are a great value. More power to you if you believe that they make the coffee taste better!

We searched for these filters and found that Amazon had a great service at a good price.

Bought these, came in a box with individually packed filters. Opened one, expecting to see a charcoal + resin filter, the ones I have are all charcoal. Physically a little too low to fit a BES870 and the edges needed trimming to fit well without wrinkling the filter, I did the pre-soak as instructed, but that didn't change anything. I would buy elsewhere, I'm guessing Amazon has a mix of the good ones and the iffy stuff and am shipping them at random to unsuspecting people.
