no, everything you need is in the box. I use this on my 2001 Road King, and it works great. Bought a 2nd one for my old truck, that I don't drive much. Just to keep the battery ready to go when I need it.

I have the ring terminals attached to the battery in my Volvo while it is in storage. I bought a six foot extension from Battery Tender so the cable now reaches from under the hood to the back window (inside the car), where the panel is resting. The cable runs out the front door to the back of the hood, so only about six inches of cable is actually outside the car. It works great. They were out of the solar panel that I wanted which tied into the OBD port. Hope this helps.
