you don't have to spend much for a great looking and performing reel
You can't beat this reel for the price. A lot of new fishermen start out with cheap equipment that doesn't perform because it is low priced. With the Sword, you don't have to spend much for a great looking and performing reel. They are well machined and have a very adequate drag system that hasn't failed me at all and remains smooth at all settings. I have reels from some of the big names and the reels from Piscifun are the ones I choose to use. The company stands behind their products and cares about quality. I've recommended Piscifun products to friends and they have thanked me. Buy this reel and use all that money you save to do more fishing!

Not amazing, but still good for the price.
I have a 9wt Chinese machined reel that looks like it came from the same factory. The machining is mediocre at best with asymmetrically drilled holes and somewhat wobbly chamfering. It doesn't look terrible though and the structure of both the housing and spool seem solid enough while also being very lightweight. The disc drag works ok, however, the drag mechanism has a fault in the design. It has a semi-enclosed drag which in my experience are the hardest to maintain. If water gets in there (which you know it will) you have to disassemble the drag and dry it out, otherwise, it will corrode and seize up on you at some point. What I will do is open it up every other time I use it and hope that works. As I said the drag itself seems fairly smooth so for trout it should be ok as long as I don't hook into a 5 pounder with 7x tippet. Don't buy this if you plan on fishing in the salt.In spite of what someone posted here, it is extremely easy to switch from right handed (default) to left handed retrieve. You just unscrew a cap covering the bearing, pop the bearing out, reverse it, and screw the cap back in. This takes about 30 seconds to complete.Overall, you really couldn't expect much more for the price so it's a good buy. Just make sure you don't need a super-duper drag system for the fishing technique you plan to employ. I had to mothball the 9wt version of this reel because I didn't have confidence in the drag for big fish.

What a great reel!
What a great reel! the fit and finish is superb, the action of how the spool rotates is great. This reel is on par with those costing three times as much. I'm very pleased with it. I bought extra spools, and put 6 wt on two, and 4 wt on two others (sinking and floating line). I just used more backing on the 4 wt line. Highly recommend this reel!

Performs above its price.
So far, so good. So very good, especially for the price of this reel. Now i've only had about 8-10 fishing trips with this reel and only about 2 months of fishing with it but it has performed very admirably. For the less than the $40 this reel cost, it genuinely is sturdy, reliable, resistant to water and gravel and has one hell of a smooth drag. The reel is smooth so smooth that often when I go to reel in my fly line just bumping my hand off the reel causes it to reel in some line on its own. Pushing on the reel's handle will spin the reel even if you take your hand off it. Its almost like Centerpin reel smooth. The reel is almost overly smooth and loose to where, as I said, just a minor bump against my reel can send it reeling in. It is almost never a problem though and it just shows to me how smooth the reeling motion is. I upgraded from a small Arbor fly reel to this Mid arbor and between the larger arbor and the super smooth bearing I have noticed a solid improvement in my reeling speed.I haven't hooked anything gigantic on this reel yet, but I set it to let out drag on hard running trout around the 13-15 inch range. And I can say that when they took some line it really, REALLY was an extremely smooth drag. Perhaps my old drag was just rough, or maybe i've not had a fly reel with a good drag because i've only been fly fishing a few years but for the cost of this reel i'd say its way above its pay grade. I'm used to reels that "click" both directions but this one only clicks when line is pulled out, but i'm getting used to it and that doesn't even qualify as a complaint. The one true complaint i'd have is that I reel in with my left hand from growing up using spinner rods. This reel came with right hand retrieve and there wasn't any directions in the box or on the website that I could find on how to change it. It did say that it was easily switched, and it is, but my advice to the makers of the reel is to include simple directions, because it is easy to do unless you've never switched one before and the fact that every reel is built different, but if they don't start doing that I was able to find a video online on how to switch the reel's retrieve. Just google Piscifun 5/6 wt reel - how to switch retrieve; and you'll probably find the video I used.I would buy the 7-8 Wt reel for my 8 Wt fly rod and when my dad wants a new reel, if he's not willing to spend more than $50 or so dollars i'm going to direct him to this reel. Absolutely a good experience for me and I was worried that the cut rate price would mean a cut rate reel, glad that my worries were unfounded.

Reel review
Took a chance and bought this reel to replace an Orvis Clearwater reel I had damaged. I had low expectations for this reel, but it is great. I can't believe the low cost and quality. It's smooth, seems to be built solid, and is easy to change from right or left hand retrieve. Highly recommend.

I was able to easily find instructions online
Only had it a couple weeks and I'm really impressed with the quality for the price. It came inside a velvet bag and was well packed for shipping. But there was no paperwork. I was able to easily find instructions online, but there wasn't anything with the reel. I needed to change the orientation since I'm left handed.

This is a beautiful well built lightweight reel with a good time proven type of drag I do not know if the drag could stand up to hard charging fish like steelhead salmon or salwater species as well as much more expensive reels but it certainly is well suited for both trout and bass fishing and at only $35 it should be the only choice for those fish. It's hard to believe that a reel like this exists anywhere close to this price.

Well built reel, no wobble in the spin.
With cheaper reels the problem I've run into in the past was reel wobble. This reel is tight. I bought a reel from a different site for $32CAD a few years ago that is a quarter of the quality. I also bought some Cabelas brand reels and other brands in and around the same price range of this particular reel($70CAD 5wt reel) and this one is most certainly of the highest quality of the bunch. I look forward to buying this brand of reel again.
