Nice upgrade, even from a Penguin 350 - AND FITS ACRYLIC TANKS!
Just received and installed this new model. It uses the same size filter cartridges, and media holders as the Penguin 350, so those got swapped over without an issue. However, it does have different sized bio wheels so the wheels from the 350 won't work. I thought it was just a spoke length difference, so I trim the tips back some on the 350 bio wheel spokes, but there's a slightly larger diameter to the 350 wheels, so they didn't get the clearance needed to spin. No biggie, it's an established tank.As far as upgrades, I'll start at the top.1. One-piece hinged lid that closes with a light snap. Thank you, Marineland!2. Filter media area located inside at the bottom of the center where the intake hooks in. There's a basket that can hold a myriad of choices in there, but a nice option will be the forthcoming micron filter from Marineland.3. Flow rate adjustment. Yes, you can variably decrease/increase the gph cycled by a simple twist of a knob. The included instructions state that it can be cranked down to 37gph.4. Pump is an easily accessible/separate but attached sub system, submerged, self-priming and quiet.Noticeable difference from the 350.5. Adjustable length inlet siphon tube that has a top section that can be used (open) for surface/mid level skimming (depending upon your water level) or closed, and an inlet screen basket with good surface area that can be opened to place media inside of it as well. And for the record, it DOES FIT ACRYLIC TANKS, or at least mine anyway which is the SeaClear 50gal rectangular.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000634H50/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1And it's a perfect fit in that opening, almost as if the pump was designed with that aquarium targeted.

Better than the old one
I bought this to upgrade from my old Penquin Power Filter. I've been using it for about a month now and overall, I'd say it's better than the old one. Firstly, it looks a whole lot better and the hinged lid is a plus. It's definitely more powerful. The suction and water circulation is noticeably more efficient and I like that the flow can be adjusted. The filter is now self priming (yay!) and the addition of a media basket is also a plus. The change in design also makes it easier to get to the impeller for cleaning and the intake now actually reaches the bottom of my tall tank. That being said, is it quieter like it claims? Not really. Actually, for the first few days it was much louder. Now that it's been running for a while, I would say the motor is slightly quieter, but it's a whole lot more 'splashy'. It also claims that this new design keeps the bio wheel turning. Nope, still randomly stops, you just can't see when it stops now because the lid is opaque black. You can tell when it stops because the splashy noise gets worse. Even so, it filters the tank much better than the old one, so overall, I'm happy.

a must have filter for any 20 gallon aquarium
a couple of months ago, I had to get a 20 gallon aquarium after the old 29 started leaking, It originally came with a marineland penguin 200 that I been using in the 20 gallon tank for a couple of months, But that filter is way too powerful for a 20 gallon as it produces too much flow, and that filter doesn't have a flow control, so I got this new penguin pro 125 which has the pump go inside the tank, and it also has a flow control, It comes with a media basket so that you can put in any other types of media for biological filtration. Its a lot quieter then the old penguin filter, Also the fact its self priming, You don't have to worry about power outages, Because if power comes back on, The filter will self prime itself and restart the filtration.I highly recommend this HOB filter if you have a 20 gallon tank.

Great for anything over 10gal
I bought the pro 125, and I’d say about 10 gallons is the minimum limit for this between the length of the intake piping and the adjustable flow - it can go as low as 12.5gph or something close to that, but even with silicone lubricant the biowheel won’t spin that low. I have it on an aqueon frameless 14 cube meant for some pea puffers, cories, and some (NOT long-finned) endlers, and it’s doing well so far. I filled the media basket with some seachem matrix and ceramic porous spheres found on Amazon (I’ll update with the name of those later), and replaced the carbon cartridge with 30 & 40 ppi filter sponge along with I believe 20 micron filter floss. So far, no complaints, after seeding with Stability and about 2 weeks of cycling the tank is running pretty well! I love how much you can adjust to your preferences with these pro filters, and if I didn’t have a canister on my 40 already I’d have seriously considered an emperor for it. Love the concept (and execution, so far) of the biowheel and I’m hoping to see further greatness as the tank matures.Update 6/4/21: a few days ago, the motor refused to come to life after unplugging for maintenance. I plugged it back in, and it didn’t even try to pump water. I thought this was due to an electrical/power issue, but then I opened up the impeller chamber to see if it was truly dead when I plugged it in. The impeller spun wildly back and forth, as if it had lost its timing with the motor. I’m not sure if this is due to not having any water in the chamber, or some other issue. Will be emailing marineland support to try and find a solution.

Replacement
I bought this to replace an older version. It is a touch wider so a snug fit to the glass cover. Great value as my previous one although it still worked was great probably close to 15 years since old

Filter does not work using cartridges, need to hotrod or no good
The media could not be loaded. The filter works well until any buildup at a gets on the cartridge. Once anything gets on the filter floss on the cartridge it blocks the flow of water so the Bio-Wheel stops spinning and the water goes around the filter to the overflow beside the intake pipe. My Aquarium has never been as dirty as it is using this filter due to the water going over the overflow instead of through the filter media. The only way I can see this to be useful is if you buy a prefilter and put on the end of the intake or into the new filter basket and get an empty cartridge to put charcoal in.Edit: Added a Prefilter into the filter basket(MarineLand PGUIN 125/175/275 Foam Filter 12/1 CT) and the issue is still present with a brand new cartridge the water still slowly goes over the overflow on the intake side and if any buildup(after 2 days) gets on the cartridge the water mostly all goes over the overflow. Making the tank build up dirt and get very cloudy. You also need to lift the cartridge up a bit at that point so enough water can go through where it is supposed to so the Bio-Wheel will turn. Before this filter we had an Aquaclear although very loud the tank was never dirty looking or cloudy. Very disappointed in this product and will be replacing it with a Fluval C4 which does not need cartridges.
