Easy Tarot Reading: The Process Revealed in Ten True Readings

Taking Tarot tothe Next Level
There are many great books for beginning tarot readers, one of which has been written by Josephine Ellershaw and is packaged with the gorgeous Gilded Tarot by Ciro Marchetti, but there are many fewer for intermediate to advanced readers. I feel this is likely because like Othello and the guitar, tarot is quite easy to pick up, satisfying to do so from Day One, but takes a lifetime to master. Everyone learns differently, and the myriad books on the market offer great starts, but very few books cover what happens after you know what the Four of Cups means to you. This book begins to fill that gap quite neatly. The author writes from the perspective of a working tarot professional, and professional she is as she takes us step by step through readings with her clients (all of whom knew they were going to be included as case studies in this book). It is actually not that difficult to learn some meanings for seventy eight tarot cards, in my experience, but the magic lies in learning to combine them into a reading that paints a story. Josephine Ellershaw shows how to take the multiple cards of her particularly used spreads and weave them into a story to which the sitter can relate, and that is a truly wise thing. The spreads the author uses are large, but she breaks them down into small groupings so that they are easily strung together into a relevant story, and while she makes it look deceptively simple as a long time reader I can assure you it is not always. Even so, by following her sage and easily read advice, anyone can learn to make their readings flow as well. As someone who mentors new readers and teaches tarot, I feel as frustrated as my students do when they come to me with large spreads that are not clearly labelled and separated, but that is not an issue with these spreads at all. If I had learned nothing else from this book, the price would have been justified in learning these spreads alone, as within them is a potential mine of information for the reader to relay to the client. My one complaint with the book is that there are no pictures to illustrate the spreads given, only diagrams, as tarot is a visual art, with the pictures on the cards being cues to the reader and jogs for the sitters' mind, but once I took the author's advice to lay out my own cards to reflect the reading I was studying with her, everything became quite clear. By the time I had gotten through a couple of her readings, I actually saw using my own cards as a positive feature because my own speak to me, just as yours should speak to you.Josephine Ellershaw has written a tarot book worthy to grace every readers' shelf, and has done so with grace, wit, and honesty. She offers excellent advice that pertains to both the art and business side of tarot reading, for students of any level. You won't find a list of what she thinks each card means, since the book assumes the reader to have a working knowledge of their cards, but you will find new and deceptively simple ways to read for yourself and others in this book. I give it glowing praise!

Great book for a serious tarot student
This book details 10 real life readings with follow up on how situations described played out. It will give you a ton of knowledge if you are learning to do predictions with Tarot cards. First you need to read Easy Tarot: learn to read the cards once and for all by the same author. You will get familiar with the cards and the predictive method. Then this book, Easy Tarot Reading: The Process Revealed in Ten True Readings, will give you a wealth of knowledge based on real life predictive readings.

Getting inside the mind of a tarot reader
This is an excellent book by a master tarot reader. It is not an easy read, however. You have to put in a lot of work to appreciate this text. The book gives only diagrams of spreads so that unless you have a photographic memory you need to lay out the spreads Ellershaw uses with two separate decks. Thus, to do the book justice, you need to read it near a large table where you can spread the cards in their rather extensive layouts.Nonetheless, once you spread the cards and read along in the text, you are in for a treat. The book presents the real-time consultations of diverse clients so that you can see what the reader was thinking and saying and how the client responded. It's a slow and tedious process but is well worth the effort. The only similar book I'm aware of that gives this much detail about actual tarot readings is Richard Roberts' The Original Tarot & You (first published in 1971). Serious tarot readers will want to read both these texts because they give the blow by blow descriptions of actual readings as they are unfolding. Both books suffer from not presenting the images of the actual cards used in the readings (which is the reason for only 4 stars).

A wonderful "how to" book through actual cases.
Josephine Ellershaw has the gift to convey to people the energies that the Tarot cards reveal. She has taken it one step further in this book through very thorough explanations of individual Tarot readings, and to THAT, added the responses of the people for whom she read as WELL as the results of the readings a few weeks and month after the reading! As always, her writing is succinct and intentionally practical. Fabulous resource for those who are interested in honestly working at the art of Tarot reading.

Easy Tarot Reading
This book is great. I had the hardest time understanding tarot. I initially bought the kit Easy Tarot Learn the Cards Once and For All. Then, I began to look for other things Josie wrote. I found this book. A long with the books, she also offers private mentoring on her site. The books are clear. But to actually work with her on the material is fantastic. Let me be a little clearer... the books themeselves really teach you. Highly recommended. I can't say enough wonderful things about it!!

Excellent resource
I first got the "Easy Tarot" book with the Gilded Tarot deck. Excellent choice. What I love about the cards and the way the author writes is that it's a positive experience and positive meanings. No hidden voodoo or fortune telling. You can make predictions of course and this book definitely shows you how. The readings are all laid out in the Easy Tarot book, as well as this one. But this book takes everything a step further. As a beginner, it's a great guide to make sure I'm getting things right. I love how she mixes Jungian psychology into her theories. I recommend to anyone trying to use tarot for self-meditation and to help others.

Interesting and fun read
It was interesting to read about other people readings and read the explanation of the meanings of the cards the way they are laid out. It shows that even if you don't think that something in a reading pertains to you, that it could be something that you don't think about at that particular point in time but may be working in the background. Both of Josie's books are easy to understand and well written.

GOOD BOOK, BUT READ HER FIRST ONE BEFORE THIS ONE
I'm half way throught the book. I read her first book before starting this one. This second book gives you GREAT examples. However, It will not be as much benefit unless you read her first book.

I was waiting for this
This book has boosted my confidence and given me many new tips and insights into reading tarot.I placed the cards out on my table from each case study and wrote up my own reading for each spread. I wanted to do this before I read what Josephine had written about them. Then I compared her reading to mine, it was nice to know I am on the right track so far. It was facinating reading how Josephine explores the cards and arrives at her answers. I had many ah-ah moments through the book as certain cards were linked together and their meaning.A good read and very helpful to me.

Easy Tarot Reading The Process Revealed In Ten True Readings
I would suggest that you buy Josephine Ellershaws second book Easy Tarot Reading as she guides you through a selection of "Ten True Readings" in full detail. Lay out your Tarot cards, and go through them systematically together as if you were there with Josephine. This method really does give you a greater understanding of how to approach and conduct a full reading for other people. Josephine explains every aspect of the reading in detail. This is a great book to own and one you can easily dip in to at any time.

Real readings prove amazing
This book is a great way to demonstrate how to interpret spreads and shows just how the tarot can guide and inform. Josie has shown in ten real readings the messages the tarot delivered and the way in which the seekers relate to the readings is truly amazing. The book shows each reading with various spreads and allows the reader to view the interpretation given and then how it proved accurate. A wonderful book for beginners or advanced readers alike but comes into its own as a study guide.
