Fox 40Micro 2 pack

As a musician that plays wind instruments I feel I can speak about pitches, apertures, bores, and articulations. Also as a police officer that directs traffic often I can speak about whistles. I stared off with a Thunderer and quickly found the Fox40 original to be superior to it. Now I am trying this Micro. It has good and less good features. First tests it appears that it is equally as loud as the original. The pitches are a little different than the original Fox40 but the difference is negligible at best. the aperture of the Micro that the air goes in is MUCH larger. I often overblow the smaller aperture of the original and air leaks around the outside of the whistle. The Micro's larger and oval shape aperture allows more air to be forced through and no air escapes. But the larger aperture also causes articulation and pitch changing differences. The original was easier to control pitch and make short notes. The last little issue with the Micro is the texture. It has a gritty/Sandy feel on the lips. I think I can fix it with some sand paper so it's not a problem. Overall I like the Fox40 Micro and with some more use I will get used to it and adapt to its features.

Ordered the blue 2 pack of whistles but actually received a blue and orange whistle. Wasn't a big deal since I chose the color for lowest cost. They both came with a corresponding colored lanyard of decent quality.I wish the whistle was a bit more compact but it certainly is very easy to EDC on a keychain because of it's flatness and negligible weight. It's also a brand/style that is more of a known quantity than many bargain whistles that look smaller.Sound is different than the typical whistle sound and it sounds very windy. You have to very intentionally blow it hard to yield a loud sound but it can be very piercing in spite of the windiness.

Just as advertised! As I am using it for backpacking and fishing, I hope my family never has to rely upon it, but the piece of mind is terrific!

Bigger than I expected

Its a pretty nice little whistle with good sound, easy to attach to cloths or such, with lanyards its real handy. Good to have for kids or when out in a remote place.

Good whistle for people with good lungs
