I purchased the Blazin’ 500 lantern last summer to use on one camping trip and to store it in case of emergency. I used the lantern minimally at night during that one camping trip. It worked wonderfully for its brightness and ability to light up our pop-up tent trailer. Then I stored it away neatly in a bin for the year. Upon taking the lantern out for our first camping trip this year, we noticed the lantern's handle no longer stays on. It appears the holes on each side were either not made deep enough or the glue wore off. The insertion points are near the very top of the lantern, and should have been placed more deeply and farther down. Please see pictures to visualize how shallow and ineffective the manufacturer made the entry points for the handles.When my husband picked up the lantern, the entire top and handles came off, the lantern fell to the floor, and then the lantern cracked. You can see the crack in one of the pictures. The handle will not stay on at all now, so the lantern cannot be carried and is useless.I spent $38 (not including the cost of the expensive three D batteries that are required for operation) on Amazon for this lantern after extensive research and reading many customer reviews. I'm very disappointed that the lantern only lasted me one camping trip, and is now unusable.On August 3, 2017, I contacted Amazon to report the issues with this lantern. Since the time frame fell outside of the Amazon warranty period, I was advised by the Amazon representative to contact the company. That same day, I emailed the company, Blazin’ Bison, through its “Contact Us” link at blazinbison.com. I gave them the details as stated above. It is now nine days later, and there has been no response from the company.Just to compare, we had a different issue with a $30 Black Diamond Orbit lantern where the lantern would not stay turned on. I reported the problem to Black Diamond, they responded immediately, and replaced our lantern at no cost. That is the type of company that backs its products and will get my patronage in the future.I’m very disappointed in the both the quality of this Blazin’ 500 lantern and the company’s poor customer service. Bright enough to read a newspaper all evening. Batteries last four or five evenings. Rugged - you can drop it and it won't break. Since Hurricane Sandy - when we lost power for nine days - we have had three events in which we lost power on average, five days each. The first two days are novel, after that it gets OLD! No TV, no DVD's. All you can do is read and listen to your (battery powered) radio (if it is strong enough to bring in distant large cities like New York, Phila, Toronto, Chicago, etc. (We are in the Pocono mountains of Eastern PA) My wife and I have a dozen of these "Blazin Bison"s and cluster them around our chairs. A good book (I am partial to Clive Cussler novels) and you've got a decent evening before you!

Great little lantern that gives off very bright light. I gladly recommend this to anyone for camping or emergency lighting when the power goes out.I still don't know how long the batteries last as my light is a bright now as the day I received it. I will be ordering another for myself and a couple forfamily members. I have had the "Sportsman" model for years and it also works the same now as it did when I bought it. Great product & value.

We had a power outage and did have battery lighted devices on-hand. I decided to go on-line and look over the offerings on Amazon. I looked at the prior buyer ratings.I liked this one and was nicely surprised by its brightness and there are two settings. The lantern is supposed to many hours (60?) with just 3 D-size batteries. I have needed to test this. The lantern feels well made.Putting the 3 D-size batteries in the right way, even with a diagram, took me a few tries. Not a big deal. Hopefully, you too will like this portable lantern.

Last Sunday evening our electricity went out when a transformer up the street blew. I sat in the dark with two electric powered candles for two and a half hours until it was restored. On Monday morning I determined to get a good LED battery operated lantern in case this happens again. It now sits on my table within easy reach. I like the size, the three options of degree of light. Overall I believe it was a good purchase not only when the electricity goes off but at other times as well.

I ordered this lantern just before Hurricane Irma. It was quite costly and I wanted a lantern and not a flashlight. So, I just ordered one to see how it would work. It worked perfectly during our 10 day power outage. I hung the lantern from the ceiling light fixture and it lit up the room better than the ceiling light. The kids were no longer afraid to be in their room!I wish I had purchased more because now they are "out of stock"Lanterns back in stock! I ordered 2 more!

Item arrived on time AS PROMISED. I am in FL and in Hurricane Irma's path. The light is VERY VERY bright for such a small lantern. I ordered the wrong size batteries but I luckily had the "C" batteries it requires. I have not had to use it yet (still have electricity). Hopefully it will as as long as the package indicates. I recommend this seller! Stay safe everyone.Update: I was able to use this little light after all (lost electricity with the storm). This light definitely provides significant light. If you are sensitive to 'glare', you will need to hang it or place it somewhere high to avoid it shining into your eyes. It offers enough light to illuminate a room. It needs to be close in order to read with it and, like any lantern, you may still strain to see well enough to read.

Lamp is excellent. The only drawback is a VERY fidly 'battery compartment alignment' when replacing batteries.
