Buy this one - comments AND Instruction Comments
If you want a digital meat thermometer this may be just the one for you. It has a light, works fast, menus are easily readable, and you can even switch it between Fahrenheit or Celsius. The instructions are easily understandable covering battery changes overall operation. Press the on off switch to turn it on then press the meat button to show the type of meat you are getting the temperature for. Beef, Veal, and Lamb has a taste button that works for then so you can choose rare, mrare, medium or wdone. If you choose pork then the screen will read pork once the temperature gets to 185 degrees an alarm sounds and it shows the temperature then entire time and after the alarm sounds so you can even know how close it is to getting done. My pork package on the meat I buy reads 165 degrees is all one needs though. I wear a glove when I use this because I open the oven door and take the measurement there after pulling out the oven rack a little. This device in my opinion can not be used with a glove. But no problem just turn it on and then put on the glove. There is also a light button. The batteries in mine needed to be flipped over in the battery compartment this may have been done to prevent it from coming on in transit. Per instructions do not immerse it in water and make sure you press the unlock button before pulling on the sturdy probe. It takes two AAA batteries. You probably will want to hold onto it when it is in the meat rather than with the old kind of meat thermometer you just stuck it in. Hold the on off button for 3 seconds to turn it off. It works fast too so its great for our sped up generation.

Works like a champ, but it is bigger than the Champ
We have a wide variety of tastes in my house about how well-done meat should be cooked. Rather than leave it to chance I like to use a meat thermometer so I can please everyone. The Polder is a replacement of an earlier and much more compact unit that died when it got left out in the rain. The Polder works very well. Quick response, lighted display, runs on standard AAA batteries - no crazy button batteries that you can't find when you need them, has presets for various meats and levels of doneness. All in all it works well and does what you want an instant read thermometer to do. Oh, and it is a lovely shade of red. What don't I like. Well, when it is folded for storage it is 12.5 inches long and because of the shape of the unit, it takes up a lot of space in the kitchen drawer.Am I happy with the unit? Yes, otherwise not a 4 star rating. Would I be happier if it were not so large? Yes, but I'm not unhappy either. If storage space is a concern for you, I'd look for something more compact. If not, one big advantage of this unit is the ability to take readings from meat on a hot grille without burning the hair right off your hand. Oh, and the nice red color means you're less likely to leave it out on the deck when overnight to get rained on, not that I ever did that.

Everything and more
Love it! I brought to test water temperatures but it works for food as well.

Great product.
Best thermometer I’ve ever used. I keep one in the house and one in my RV. I’ve also bought three thermometers one for each son. I don’t barbecue without it.

Accurate but weird functionality
First the good things: This thermometer will quickly and very accurately measure temperature of just about anything. The long probe makes it easy to check meat on the BBQ without getting burned or moving it off the heat. Really useful for checking food in the oven or on the stove. Very good at that. Not so good: It doesn't allow the user to turn off the preset temps, to create your own preset temps, or to stop it from freaking beeping at you if your food temp exceeds the preset. Like...I'm holding you and looking at you, why are you beeping at me? The inability to turn off the preset feature is probably the biggest failing, making it an annoyance almost every time I use it. The buttons are very cheap feeling and hard to push. Finally if you don't turn it off, it will just start beeping at you while sitting on the counter at room temperature.Great idea that still needs more work.
