If I am out of town, will this system send message to iphone of leak?

Yes, also Alexa or Google! I monitor a friends house while he is gone for the summer as well as his PumpSpy sump pump. This is super easy to set up too.

Can rechargeable batteries be used?

Rechargeable batteries are discouraged. As mentioned, you should see 5+ years of battery life from these sensors, on standard alkaline batteries. The sensor is waterproof, so it must have a watertight battery enclosure cover. Replacing the batteries is not difficult, the screws are hidden behind small rubber plugs, which need to be popped out with a tweezers or needle, and then placed back in after replacing the batteries. The process is in the manual and we have a YouTube video on it. We do have our Water Leak Sensor 2, it is a different setup, with a remote sensing cable, and the sensor is mounted up off the floor. Since the sensor is not waterproof, it does have a simple battery enclosure cover that pops right out. But these our best selling sensor by far, and it's just an overall bulletproof design that should give you 5+ years of service before you even need to think about replacing the batteries. Can the yoliink water link sensor activate the smart plug? would the yolink network then email a notfication?

Yes, there are several ways you can have one of our plugs respond to a water leak detection. And it is up to you how you are notified, but, yes, getting an email is no problem!

So if i lose my internet or power (110v). an electrical storm or a smart thief) yolink will stop working with no notifications. is that correct?

Yep! But you could put the central component (plug in unit, the sensors use a battery for power) and whatever router for the internet you use on a UPS leaving only the actual internet service as the possible weak link that would stop notification. I really can't think of a more dependable method if you want notification on a device on the phone.
