AXA Defender'' Frame Lock - Black

Instructions would be good.
This is a quality lock that enables you to leave the lock permanently mounted on the bike, if you have the correct fitting kit, which does NOT come with it.Took a while and some internet research to work out what was needed and finally established that the Flexmount is what's required. (at least in my case). It's fiddly to fit and in my case required a bit of bike surgery too, and the instructions with the Flexmount kit were pretty obscure. My advice is to take the fitting slowly and don't tighten everything down until you're sure it's all in the right place.Having completed the job I am very pleased with the result. My wife now has a permanent lock, like her Danish friends, and no longer needs to worry if it's in her panniers or left on the hall table.Another neat thing about this lock is that the key stays in the lock when it is unlocked and you can only remove it when it's locked. The lock also has provision for attaching a second security cable that allows you to attach the bike to a fixture e.g. bike rack .When finished it's an elegant if quite expensive solution (Lock £27.69 Flexmount £9.47 optional Cable £17.63).

AXA Defender cycle lock and Chain fitting!
This lock is suitable for most bikes-if it has the threaded bosses on the rear stays. Most Dutch style and shopper type bikes will have these. Less so on mountain and road bikes. No screws come with the lock. You will need two 5mm x 12 mm allen head screws and 2 5mm washers. I went with stainless as that’s what I had too hand. Also some form of thread lock to prevent the screws vibrating loose and the lock ending up in your spokes. Fitting is a bit fiddly for big fingers but shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes or so. Remove the two covers over the mounting slots with a small screw driver.Slip the lock over the wheel, hold in place and decide which screw slot on the lock you are going to use. Put the washers on the screw and a blob of thread lock. Mount the screw on the long end of the Allen key and put it through the chosen slot into the boss, being careful not to cross thread it. Put both screws in lightly nip up and centre lock by looking at the exposed slot. Tighten firmly. Replace the two covers, they are handed, marked L and R.Tools required small screw driver, Allen key to suit bolt, thread lock. The key stays in till it is locked. The chain plugs into the opposite side of the key.Nice lock in conjunction with the chain, that is going to protect your bike whilst you nip in and out of shops. for longer unattended periods I would use an additional lock and cable through the frame and wheels. I’ve given it 5 stars because it does what it says on the tin nothing more nothing less.

Poor finish / packaging, extra cost mount.
Plastic outer frame all scratched ,and one of the plastic covers for hiding mounting screws missing and other one loose and securing tabs broken. This possibly due to poor packaging,as mounted on open piece card with cable ties, would have thought at price might have come in box for better protection. Not mounted yet,as require additional mounting hardware, not included at additional cost £11. Dont no yet how robust this will be,but should be good as other brands of same product, just poor presentation and finish in my opinion.Cant be bothered sending back for refund / replacement due to hassle.

Not rolling when locked
I have fitted 7 of these locks to our various electric bikes in various locations and they offer a little bit more peace of mind, it is difficult to just wheel a bike away with this device fitted and locked. Locking is simplicity itself and the key is always with you as it can only be removed with the lock , locked!Easy to fit and can go in front or behind the rear wheel stays depending on room you have.Recommended.

Useless, half a product
Nothing included. No fitting bolts/ wires/ any means of attaching it to the bike. No instructions. Otto claim, that there is a “special fixing kit” attached, is a lie. Unless you’ve fitted this exact model previously, and happen to have equipment left over, this product is useless. (NB I’m a long-term biker who’s fitted other models of these locks previously). Really disappointed.
