Men's Windsor Wool Over-The-Calf Dress Socks, 3-Pairs

These good looking socks stay up all day. The wool is more comfortable than other fibers and well worth the price. The socks do not leave an indent in my skin from tight threads at the top because the top band is over three inches long. They are snug and provide light compression without being really difficult to put on. The strong gold threads in the toe will make these socks last a long time for me; my big toe wears a hole in regular socks over time. I love how these socks keep my ankles warm in cold weather. I have less ankle swelling, too. I have purchased nine pairs. I highly recommend them.

These are turning out to be nice work socks for me. After initially thinking "these feel kinda scratchy," since I'm used to mostly cotton socks, I quickly forgot about them and they started to just feel right. They look good and don't sag. These lose one star because sizing is a little problematic for me. My feet are a common size 10, but I have bulky calves, and the socks stretch only so much. I can get them on without trouble, but getting them off is fiddly and takes time, as my thumb won't fit in the sock while my leg is there! So I have to slowly tease them down from the sides until they come free. Ideally I'd want the socks to have a more generous diameter, possibly compensated for by higher spandex content in the wool blend than the 1% these use.

I have been wearing these socks for a couple of months now. The wool dress socks are the exact weight for wearing when it is not summer, but you are not hiking in the winter. There is a "thread" in the top of the sock that will keep it up during the day, but will not cut off circulation. I just worry what would happen if that "thread" breaks. So far that has not happened. They wash well, do not shrink and do not wear quickly. Definitely worth the price! Buy these socks, not GoldToe's cotton dress socks (see my review of those).

What kind of socks a person likes to wear is purely a matter of personal preference, but I've tried a lot of different types of hosiery over the years, these have turned out to be just about perfect for me. Like all Gold Toe socks, they wear like iron, but they also look and feel great. They are definitely the dressy type made for wearing to the office, but I have found them so comfortable that I also wear them on the weekend, too. While they aren't fluffy like athletic socks, they are still pretty cushy - i.e., not the thin type like a lot of dress socks made for men out of nylon. They have a fairly high wool content, which means they keep your feet dry in the summer and insulated/warm in the winter, but they also have just the right amount of stretch to go on easily and to stay up on your leg. These are definitely on the long side (over the calf), and will come up to an inch or two below your knee, which is where I like them so that they don't roll down on you. I bought both black and blue colors, and after at about 10 to 15 washes, they have proved to be totally colorfast, and have not faded in the least. I highly recommend these as a top quality product.

I must admit that I was at first reluctant to make this purchase. My first encounter with Gold Toe was close to two decades ago, wearing their all nylon socks, which seemed to last forever. Reading some of these reviews on Amazon I thought that, first being a wool blend, and second because of declining manufacturing quality, I might be purchasing an inferior product. Now I am happy to say that after nearly three years of regular wear these socks have met or possibly exceeded all expectations. I purchased my first 3 pair set in October of 2013. After a month of wear I purchased a second set. I wore those for about two years and realizing that they may never wear out (thank you Gold Toe!) but that I can be quite lazy in regards to laundry, I purchased a third set. I am not kind to my socks. I sometimes wear them without shoes. When I wear them with shoes it is usually for dancing, where they see heavy use, and I often use them multiple times before washing. This is the great advantage of wool; I never worry about my socks smelling "rank." Somehow despite all the abuse I've put these socks through I can barely tell the difference between the socks I purchased 3 years ago and those I purchased last year. Gold Toe built these to last. I am a very satisfied customer and highly recommend these socks to anyone looking for a high quality, lightweight wool sock for everyday use.

The size may be “large” but once you wash it, even in lukewarm water, and once you dry it, even in low heat, it shrinks at least two sizes. Also, not as thick as the other GoldToe socks.

Disappointing. Not long enough to go over my calf, only reach about half way, and I'm not super tall or anything. Also too tight in the calf. Overall, not a great product.

These are great. Wide enough through the toes, very high and have a bit of compression. I will definitely buy more of these.
