Not sure what the fuss is about
I've been reading reviews on this product and was made very skeptical about using it. I was more impressed than I was expecting once the rail arrived. The paint on it sadly does scuff off a little too easy but the install process seemed to be better than what people were saying. Honestly I just don't think people knew what they were doing.Install: Take apart was easy with the iron sight. just pounded out the pin and easily popped apart. Installation of the mount was just as easy. I did have to use a C-clamp to hold it in place (I kept the leaf spring in) while I screwed the 2 pieces together. and bolted everything down (VERY IMPORTANT)Very simple, took me less that 5 minutes to get it all done. I do recommend locktite like others suggested. Only because my Mosin does have a lot of kick.Pros: Easier and nicer than people thinkCons: Paint scuffs too easy. will have to repaint later on.

Not as solid as I would like.
The scope rail depends on a set screw just in front of the rear sight through-pin to hold it level. It pivots on the rear sight through-pin and has one set screw towards the muzzle right next to the pin and two more 2/3 of the way back toward the breech. Total distance between the screws is about 3 inches and the mount is twice that length. With a lot of adjustment you can get the mount to be firm and level but it is not what I would call a rock solid mount. It is like getting a seasaw level by using a jack stand on one side of the center fulcrum and a bottle jack pushing up on the other side to maintain level. It works but it is not elegant. It does provide a good rail and has enough fore and aft movement space to get good eye relief on the scope, without interfering with the bolt. No special tools or skill is required to install the rail. You knock out the rear sight through-pin with any approriate size punch or nail and then install the rail base into the rear sight mount.

Do not buy
If you want a sturdy scope mount, look elsewhere. This things a piece of junk. Glad i bought two, first one broke tightening down the front screw that levels it out.... it didnt strip or anything... it broke in half right through the screw hole. Next time ill just buy a piece of steel rail and make my own.

good but cheap
The mount is not very solid. took some time with sandpaper to get this thing to fit in the first place on my 91/30. If you need a cheap mount this is the way to go but if you have a little extra cash shell it out for a better mount. this one is just not a quality product

Seesaws and does not hold
As many Mosin Nagant owners know, finding a good mount without hacking into your gun is like finding a snowman in hell. I ordered this mount thinking it would do the job. After knocking out the rear sight pins and installing this, it was a good fit and held tight. I even put red loctite on the screws to make sure it wouldnt move. I noticed that it had a seesaw effect that i was worred about. After taking it to the range, it was rock solid after about 10 shots. After about 20 more shots, the screws were loosening and the seesaw effect was now in motion. I tightened the screws once again and after another 20 shots it was moving back and forth. Im going to throw this cheap thing away and going to try the tri-rail mount. DO NOT BUY.

Works!
Works well. You may want to put Loctite on the set screws (there are 3 vertical [adjust level up/down] and 3 horizontal set screws going into the vertical screws) as it can move on you after a few boxes. Also I had to use a little sand paper to get it to fit right. The part that is in front of the screw that holds it on was a little too thick. It was easy as it's aluminum, I took off just barely more than the paint. Also, your existing rear sight is spring loaded (leaf spring) so after you start to remove the pin, make sure you have a thumb on it to hold it down. I used the back of a small nail to tap out the pin holding in the rear sight.FYI, I have a 1926 M/91 with a hex barrel. FYI, I used this with an inexpensive NcSTAR long relief 'pistol' scope.-Bounty
