Not for Dummies
A lot more technical than I expected!

Great introduction to a complex subject
I found this book extremely helpful in explaining the important considerations in tackling home recording. It saved me a great deal of expense and spared me many headaches. I am an amateur musician with no recording or production experience.

A fairly hard read
I have been drumming and playing the bass for many years and have a basic understanding of recording. This book is somewhat advanced in my opinion. It certainly is not written for dummies. Or I am a much bigger dummy than I thought.I believe there is value to the book. I own a multitrack recorder and have an old Computer Steinberg Cubase software system that I was hoping to improve upon. That has not happened. I guess I still need a more basic system for bigger Dummies. I’ll get there, I guess I was hoping for better information with less-advance jargon?

Easy to follow
As a newcomer to the world of home recording this book is a must have. Cuts through a lot of jargon and offers advice on equipment to get started on a small budget. Everything I needed to get started on my own mammoth music project! Highly recommended.

Read the first few chapters even if you are experienced
My library had a much older version and I liked some of the details I was finding as I searched randomly through the book, so I bought this newer version (5 more chapters than the 2000 3rd edition - lots of changes with PC based DAW). I’ve been doing sound editing for a bit, online courses and thought I had the basics down ok. But I learned a few things, especially with regards to PC configuration (I use a DAW) that I was unaware of. I also thought I understand the various cable types but again I learned a few new things. The author mentions the use of ProTools on occasion, which I don’t use and I still learn from what he has to say. Generally, a great general purpose book.
