You will need to change out the cleats on existing shoes that are not Crank Brother's style cleats. Crank brothers have a slightly different cleat profile. **Q: Do I need to grease this pedals 7 like older models?** A: I never have, or had to. Of course, a bit of grease on the threads is a wise idea. They work well. **Q: Will these work on bontrager shoes** A: Yes my wife has bontrager shoes. They have two holes for the clips. If you can use SPD you can use Crankbrothers. I love ours I would never go back! **Q: Are you supposed to use the Crankbrothers shoe shields with this?** A: I don't use any shoe shields on my crankbrother pedals. I have several versions of crankbrother pedals. This particular version has a rubber platform which does not slide / rotate as freely as the other crankbrother pedals, so you need to have slightly looser cleat that allows you to rotate your foot as you pedal.
