This knife is great. Its sharp and long enough to do some ...
I used this while working as an armed guard. This knife is great. Its sharp and long enough to do some damage if needed. It fits well in between your duty belt. There are two straps with a button snap style of buckle. It should fit onto two inch belts. There are holes on the sheath to instal the metal TDI clip if you prefer that. For my purpose I found the straps worked fine. The shape of the knife itself works well for combatives. Whether you're holding it in a reverse grip or a regular grip it fits comfortably and its easy to retain. I wore it on the Velcro portion of my duty belt on a left side appendix carry then placed the main duty belt over top of it. This gave me access to it with both hands if needed for either firearm retention and an attack or a block an attack depending on the situation. It was out of the way and the grip was large enough to grab in a high stress situation. The only drawback I found was, if you ever put on weight or have a large stomach it may affect the way you carry it. I gained some weight while working that complex and the knife became unconformable to carry. All in all, if your physiology allows you to carry this knife I highly recommend it. It's out of the way when you don't need it and always available when you do. It's high quality and a must have if you work in a dangerous area.

An excellent knife!
First and foremost, some say this is for LEO/not for civilians, but I'd disagree. I own the smaller version and this larger version. My take is, if you aren't stupid, then it could be a good knife for you. I practiced with this knife, and I'm confident I can use it well if needed. What some fail to realize is as long as you know enough about this blade to not injure yourself, the only person who could accurately defend against this knife is someone with training. The blade is incredibly sharp and is incredibly sturdy. The blade is the full tang and is well designed ergonomically. To note, you can equip this knife with the TDI belt clip to use it on thinner belts. Can be had from Amazon for 12$But I will say this knife does take a bit of force to release from the sheath so even with the TDI clip, it will pull up on your belt significantly far; even with a thicker webbed belt. https://www.amazon.com/Ka-Bar-Metal-Belt-Clip-Knives/dp/B00180D1ES/ref=pd_sim_1?pd_rd_w=BwkNy&pf_rd_p=dde9b612-c71c-4550-8f12-758d90eade9e&pf_rd_r=1RZ6CJBWPTZ0916S0XY8&pd_rd_r=763b923b-4076-4516-9286-d383a9d55e91&pd_rd_wg=BbTkz&pd_rd_i=B00180D1ES&psc=1.

Recommended by a US Marine.
I love this knife. I am a US Marine and I am stationed in a not so friendly environment. I carry this with me everywhere as well as a folder. I usually carried a benchmade but didnt like how much it would show when I was trying to carry it concealed in stores or restaurants. So I bought this one and the smaller one for my wife. I've had several years of training with knives even before the Marine Corps but that was all with straight blades, but I got used to this one very fast and am able to deploy it with ease. It doesnt print much, it's easy to get used to and deploy, and feels great in the hand. Definitely recommend this knife. It is top quality and one fo the best for EDC on the market.

It's not a toy so get some training or leave it at home!
Besides the sheath needing a belt clip, I can't find anything worth complaining about. I'm glad I didn't get the small one. It's concealable and light weight. The handle fits me and has a natural feel in my hand. It's just flat enough so it doesn't easily twist and I know where the blade is pointed without having to see it. After doing some testing I don't think my hand will slip into the blade even when it's wet. That's Important to me considering what it is intended to be used as. The steel is high quality and the heat treat is adequate. After using a strop i could shave with it. Edge retention is good. Does have some flexibility and I think it would take severe punishment to break more than just the tip of the blade. I went ahead and sharpened part of the top edge, near the tip. (30mm) So it can slice in both directions like a dagger and penetrate heavy clothing easier.

I Carry This Everywhere
I kept having the urge to carry a weapon around with me for protection and seeing as I'm not old enough to carry around a concealed fire arm yet then this seemed like a good choice. The build quality is fantastic. And when I say fantastic I mean exemplary. I can see why this is made for Law Enforcement but the average Joe that wants a little protection this is great. The blade is long enough but not too long and if you wear it on your belt then it's small enough to hide under a shirt of jacket. The little notch is good for either gripping it with your index finger or backwards with your pinky. I've been wearing this knife on my hip for over a year and a half now and love having the added security. The versatility I get while holding it is also a plus. I apologize that I don't know too much about the intricacies of knives but from a beginners perspective this is very good.

Excellent knife, can be modified to use the TDI holster click from the smaller TDI knife.
Ok, I own the smaller Ka-Bar TDI also as my everyday carry knife. I am still evaluating the use of it's larger cousin. I replaced the web-belt clip with a holster clip that works on the regular TDI - it does work, if you have that question. The big challenge now it the larger TDI's weight versus its smaller brother. Sometimes the concept, "Bigger is better", isn't the way to judge a larger product. I can forget, because of its light weight that the smaller TDI is there. This larger one is noticeable when you carry it, (left, weak hand side for me) and pair it with a IWB carry gun on the right hand side. I have a CCW and I am not in law enforcement, so comfort at this point in my life makes a difference. If I couldn't carry somewhere, then I'd go with the larger TDI knife - it is an excellent product, and holds a real nice edge. Perhaps I'll get used to the extra weight over the smaller TDI in time.

These three things are certain, taxes, death, being able to count on a Ka-Bar to protect human life.
I absolutely love this version of the Ka-Bar TDI Law Enforcement Knife, it was everything I hoped it would be and more. The only thing that would make it better, is if the blade was D2 steel like their Extreme Fighting Knife, which I also have the pleasure of owning. I wear it on the right side of my SOG Ninja pack, as I am mostly ambidextrous, but my left hand is my dominant hand for striking. The kydex sheath comes with it's own tool for taking out the screws and allowing you to reconfigure it to suit your carry preference, and you can increase your options with paracord as well, as it has two set of eyelets. Also, the straps can be removed altogether for more options. I really think they did this one up right, and I believe it has been updated from an earlier design which if I remember correctly had a metal clip, which is something I would not have used. Another reviewer had mentioned that you should have some degree of training on this before you carry it, and I totally agree that you should train with any personal protection apparatus before you carry it on your person, and this knife in particular, as I could easily see someone injuring themselves if they are unfamiliar with how to use one of these. One reason I like this particular knife is that IMO, it is easier to control the amount of damage you may have to cause an attacker, if it is a situation where it is not absolutely necessary to mortally wound them. Chances are, if you have to defend yourself with any weapon, you are most likely going to have a stay at the police station until they have determined you have been justified in defending yourself, and if you haven't mortally wounded an attacker, your chances of getting out sooner, rather than later would in my best guess, likely go up. The retention of the kydex sheath is pretty robust, and I would imagine that is because a law officer would be willing to sacrifice a certain level of ease of deployment, in favor of making it more difficult for someone to take the knife away from them by trying to grab it from the sheath. I chose to loosen the screw closest to where the top of the knife enters the sheath in order to make it quicker to deploy. If you're willing to put in the time to learn how to properly use this knife, I would recommend it for both men and women.

Quality knife. Terrible sheath and belt loops
The quality of the knife is exactly what you would expect out of a KA-BAR. One of the highest quality knives on the market. Even many US military personnel prefer this brand over what is issued to them. Biggest issue I have with this product is the sheath and the belt loops. The knife is very hard to pull out of the sheath. It's so difficult that the velcro and snap belt loops disengage. You need two hands to pull the knife out. Which completely defeats the purpose. 2 things should be noted. Amazon is NOT an authorized seller of KA-BAR products. Therefore, the manufacturer warranty will likely come into question for defects or issues with this product down the road. Secondly, the issue with the sheath and original belt loops are a know issue with KA-BAR. They do make a separate hard clip meant to screw into the holster, but it is only available in a vertical carry. The way the knife is designed, I prefer this knife to be horizontal carry. Reason for this is the knife in a vertical carry hits you in the ribs or the leg if you holster the handle downward. In conclusion, I have returned this product due to the sheath and belt loop issue. If it were not for that, I would keep the product. Like is said, it is still a high quality knife, but the sheath is legit half the product in a fixed blade.
