I bought this Ecojay SmartZone-4X controller to replace the old one at the point I upgraded the furnace and cooling condenser. Before I bought the EcoJay product, I called in to verify that it would work with my equipment. I got a slow, detailed, thorough discussion, and decided to buy it. After my new HVAC equipment was installed, I installed the zone controller. The product does exactly what the sales literature says it will. I've had it in use for about a month, and it's performed flawlessly. This controller board is exceptionally well-designed and manufactured. It's easy to install, and the documentation is easy to follow. The board has LED lights on it and digital displays that tell you exactly what the board is doing, making it a snap to diagnose problems and monitor the board's performance during the test-out phase of installation. The post-sale support is exceptional on all counts. Fast, competent, patient, free. I am not an HVAC professional, and I made two mistakes during installation which would have ruined a less-well-designed board. I called EcoJay's support line, and they helped me fix my problems in minutes. I recommend this product with no reservations. The old dampers were also Durozone dampers and they had 5 terminals and required both 24AC wires to power the dampers. The Smartzone damper connections only contained the common terminal. Luckily, the Smartzone website provides wiring instructions for many types of dampers and I was able to power the dampers with no issues. Then close the unneeded ducts when a zone calls for heat?** A: SmartZone controllers will open all zone dampers when there are no zone thermostats calling for heat, cool or fan only operation. When a call is made from any zone and there are no calls active from any other zone, SmartZone will close the non-calling zone dampers and the calling zone's dampers will remain open. **Q: is it compatable with carrier infinity units** A: Carrier Infinity is available in several model levels. If your model is using conventional 24VAC controls and thermostats then our SmartZone controls will be compatible. If your Infinity uses Carrier Infinity proprietary "communicating" controls then you will only be able to use Carrier's zoning control product for Infinity systems. **Q: How doe this link to other zones wireless T-stats if the primary is wired?** A: Each wireless thermostat will typically have a separate receiver component that is located at or near the zone controller. The receiver and thermostat are wirelessly linked to each other. The receiver is wired to the zone controller thermostat terminals and relays the wireless signals from the thermostat to the controller. With SmartZone, any wireless and/or wired thermostat can control the equipment. There is no primary thermostat with SmartZone controls unless you configure it to operate that way using our proprietary ECO mode feature. **Q: Can you set the number of devices calling before it operates the system?** A: Any single zone is able to run the hvac equipment by itself or in tandem with multiple zones calling for the same mode. We do not have a setting that allows the user to set the # of zones that must be calling for the same mode before the hvac equipment is energized. Our SmartZone controllers have an "ECO" mode feature that limits all zones except zone 1 from energizing the equipment. The other zones can make thermostat calls and when the equipment is energized they will be able to open their damper and participate in equipment call. Customer Service was Even Better... *by P***. on July 3, 2025* I don't write many reviews. However, I feel I need to about this product and customer support. The system was very easy to wire up. Pretty Self explanatory. Directions were straight forward and easy to understand. However, I did have an issue but not with the ECOJAY System.. It was me being "A MAN" and not fully reading the instructions on the Thermostats I bought. Thinking I had everything correct.. I called ECOJAY support.. AMAZINGLY an actual person answered the phone and I didn't have to press 1 for English etc... I Immediately was talking with Jeff, Tech Support. Jeff was very helpful and knowledgeable of not only his product by other products as well.. He walked me through some troubleshooting to be sure what he knew what the issue was. My "Failure" to read and follow the Settup of the Thermostats was the issue. Jeff was very friendly and helpful.
