very easy to use
I bought the Fat Separator to replace the old one I had. It is a life saver and very effective in separating the oilfrom my gravy, just pour gravy off meat into the separsting cup and allow the oil to rise to the top, then pour gravy off, very easy to use. I am very happy with purchase, and it will make a wonderful Gift. Thanks

Maybe 5 star
I have used this separator for about a year now. It is big enough for the 12-18 lb birds I cook, but larger birds might need a bigger one for all the drippings. I gave 4 stars because of the size of the holes in the top strainer. This is personal preference. The holes in this one are largish and allow some small bits of fat, skin, or meat to drop into the collector. Of course, these heavier bits will migrate to the bottom and flow out when you are pouring for your gravy. If you don't care about small bits in your gravy, then this is perfect. If you prefer lump free gravy, then maybe look for one with smaller holes. I will add that the larger holes do allow the drippings to flow faster, that can be an issue sometimes with a hot, heavy bird.5 star if you don't mind or prefer the larger holes.

I'd buy it again
Works great. I like that the top edge has the raised front piece to prevent spillage as I tip out the stock. This one is IDENTICAL to the more expensive separator that I was considering except for one thing: a cork that you put in the tip of the spout before you pour out the stock to prevent the fat from filling the spout part. I used an expandable silicone wine stopper that I already had and it worked GREAT.One note: this item did not get cleaned very well in the dishwasher, so I ended up washing it by in very hot soapy water by hand. I guess the chicken fat really clings to the plastic.

Needs Stopper
Any grease separator has to have a stopper to keep grease out of spout when separator is being filled. I solved the problem with a plastic capped liquor bottle cork stopper from Paul Masson Brandy. Inside diameter of spout is 23 mm.

Four Stars
Perfect for what I need. Plastic didn't crack under the heat.

This a great hostess gift for the Tahnksgiving home cook!
Best separator I've ever used! Large size, excellent design & very sturdy construction! The weekend it arrived I was cooking stock, in volume and this really made the end process so much easier! Made a gallon each of chicken stock and also beef stock (which was fattier as it was made from roasted beef shank and beef soup bones). I also bought this product for me son (who was convinced that this was unavailable & probably no longer in production)! He's now a "believer"...seeing is believing; using is convincing!

does not serve purpose
oil comes out the top when using it and everything gets mixed up again. waste of money, try another design!

Heat resistant fat separator
Bought this a while ago to use for cleaning used cooking oils for soapmaking.I've used it a few times and it has withstood heat pretty well (just boiled liquid), and does the job of separating the fats from water, etc. My only issue is that I wish it was offered in a larger size, as the 4-cup capacity is a little too small for what I currently use it for.Other than that, it works well.
