Modern Control Systems

I was happy to receive the book for less than the bookstore (which was out of stock anyways) was asking, and in reasonable time.I won't go into the fact that I found the material of the book of little use, because I doubt many people buy textbooks to actually learn from them, and my professor's teaching approach could very well have just have been poorly complimented by the book.

Excellent book for learning controls. I had zero controls knowledge before taking the course, but pretty comfortable with electronics/systems material. I also had the privilege to take the course with one of the authors. Well organized and the example problems, including the MatLab simulation problems, were a great help. I learn more by doing a couple examples than I would by reading more chapters and more books; so examples and practice problems are key for me and this book delivers that. This book doesn't get excessive with the verbiage and prepared me to address real world control system problems. Using the material from this book we were able to design with Root Locus and Bode for actual systems Dr Bishop gave us, not just randomly made up problems. Good resource to be introduced to controls, on a basic ground floor level.

An excellent and a very complete course on control systems analysis and design. A large number of very practical examples. The textbook is a very thorough introduction to control systems.

I found this book difficult to learn from. After learning the material from another book (Nise), the text from this book made sense. For me, the mathematics was too generalized to quickly pick up what it going on. Nise’s textbook does a much better job of reinforcing the mathematics with simple examples.

13th edition, but still concepts are vague

This book will be of no immediate value without an introductory course in ODE. However it is a good buy.

Overpriced

I have recently started a new role that involves an increase in control systems theory and modelling and therefore I wanted to purchase a textbook that provides a good overview with some additional problems, exercises to work-through to reinforce what I have learnt. The really disappointing aspect of this book is that there is a supplementary solution manual for all the exercises detailed in this book that you cannot access unless you are part of an educational institution of which I am not, I am a working professional. I am also not happy that Dorf (via PEARSON) has not replied to my complaint e-mail. Now I have to spend more money on anther control systems book!

Useful in the areas I already have fairly substantial knowledge, but absolutely useless for learning a topic for the first time.

There are several examples in the Book and lots of matlab code. One can directly test his knowledge.
