First rate book
Excellent. Would be even better with maps (to show patrol areas and show the routes of some specific patrols) more diagrams and some more photos. But overall a very good read.

A great look at the U-Boat sailors and their life
Many years ago I first acquired a copy of this book and read it. I was amazed at the level of detail in to the lives of the U-Boat crews. Up until this point, I had read a lot about the U-boats themselves and their captains. There are many books about the war and the Aces but this is written about the men who kept the boats going throughout the war. This book is a great resource for anyone interested in diving a bit more in to the history of the time, but do not expect an overall history of the U-Boats and the battles, for that you have Clay Blair. In this Mr. Mulligan writes a great tome about the training, background and lives of the U-Boat men.

U-boat hisory
I have researched U-boat history for the past 8 years. I wish I had this book back when I started my novel. Timothy Mulligan's is the most comprehensive text I have seen. If you are a serious reader you will find everything you want to know about Germany's wolf pack and all the facts to back up his account of the sea battles.

Snooze Material
OMG, I can't read another page! This books reads like a textbook: STIFF, formal, with facts, nothing but facts. HELP, I'm falling asleep! Seriously, I got absolutely nothing out of this book -- but it truly did put me to sleep, so I'm grateful. If you're having trouble sleeping, then I highly recommend this book. If you're a naval cadet (there is such a thing, right?), then by all means, GOFERIT. Otherwise, pick up something that you can't put down and will make you wanting more -- like Teddy Suhren's book, for instance. I've had enough schooling, I don't need any more, thankyouverymuch.

Very much an analysis of the selection process of the u-boat service covering the period 1939/45 and how the system was modified as the war progressed.I found it quite heavy to digest, and only of moderate interest, if however your interests fall into this area of research, then this book is quite detailed and full of data.Outside of this category, I would describe it as of limited interest to the casual reader...Therefore i found the price was a little on the hihg side.

expected a lot more
This is not really a review - just my personal view on this book.It provides a view on the men in the U-boats, but it's mostly based on some statistics pulled from data from several interviews done.I found it quite a boring read.

Superb!
This is probably the best book ever written about the U-boat war. An excellent piece of work and highly readable.
