Angelique Collection
Absolutely delighted with this DVD. I have read all the books and am re-reading them again after 30 years and this collection of DVDs is very accurate from the books. I was delighted to receive this in stated time and thoroughly enjoyed the discs. I wish they had made more films continuing the story of Angelique in the New World. Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoyed the books.

Good entertainment
I have seen that as a child and still enjoy it! From the book by Serge and Anne Golon, a magnificently filmed romantic drama. Michele Mercier as "Angelique" has earned her place in movie history with this series.

Joooooffffreeyyy - cries out Angélique - a charming series from the sixties - a sumptous costume drama
Angélique is series of 15 French historical adventure books by the novelist duo Anne and Serge Golon. They were inspired by the life of Suzanne de Rougé du Plessis-Bellière, known as the Marquise du Plessis-Bellière. She has been one of France's most famous women of her time. She had a court of artists and statesmen around her. She was often in opposition to the King Louis XIV, and inspired with her adventurous life some well known stories or has been called Elise by Dumas, for his Le Vicomte de Bragelonne. Some of these books were then adapted into 5 popular movies. The movies were joint production of France, Italy and Germany. Director of the movies was Bernard Borderie and the main cast was Michèle Mercier as Angélique Sancé de Monteloup and Robert Hossein as Jeoffrey de Peyrac.Angélique, marquise des anges (1964) [1]Merveilleuse Angélique (1965) [2]Angélique et le roy (1966) [3]Indomptable Angélique (1967) [4]Angélique et le sultan (1968) [5]The Angelique movies catapulted Michelle Mercier to almost instant stardom rivalling Brigitte Bardot in celebrity and popularity. But "the Marquise of the Angels", was both a blessing and a curse as it all other aspects of her career. By the end of the 1960s, the names Angélique and Michèle Mercier were synonymous. It was a bit like the "Sissi-Movies" for Romy Schneider, but she managed to break free and establish herself as an actress who played much better characters than merely Sissi. But Mercier had to admit: "When people talk with me they always refer to Angélique, but I have also played fifty other women. I have tried for a long time to forget about her. But now I see her as a little sister who is always by my side and I have learned to live with her."The movies are typical sixties and in their innocence and predictibility charming. There stories are very simple but engaging and the movies are beautifully done. It is a pleasure to watch and to relax. And most of all I love when Madeame la Marquise cries out for her husband: Joooofffrreeeeyyy. You will see what I mean. It seems to be her main line.Just enjoy it!!!

1.33:1 ? NOT REALLY!!!
The original fifteen or so written novels about the Courtesan Angelique were incredibly popular worldwide in the Fifties and Sixties and the series of five motion pictures were produced in the late 1960's as a joint French-Italian-German collaboration. - The huge input of talent, budget and production values oozes off the screen. No Computer gimmicks here - just sheer gloss, action and pleasure.I purchased the French Box Set from Amazon UK some time back and the five films were beautifully presented in original DyaliScope (CinemaScope) with restored color and French language. All five Trailers were also included. My five taped-off-TV in the late Seventies VHS copies still play well and are still very watchable (and in English language) but were naturally only standard screen cut-downs.If a further updated set is not in Widescreen then why bother? The French Set is worth Ten Stars and the vision supersedes any problems with not understanding the dialogue! However, for those who have never seen these five brilliant and extremely entertaining movies, I urge anyone to buy this Box Set just to have these Classics in your Home Library. And yes, the haunting Music Score by Michel Magne is truly wonderful - I was lucky to obtain the overseas pressing of the priceless LP at a Collectibles Fair a few years ago. These five movies are Gems and have given me many repeated hours of pleasure over the years since 1978 both on VHS and the recent French DVD copies - several times the five have been watched in tandem - they are that entertaining. And Michelle Mercier - a truly beautiful Actress from the late Sixties era when the films were made, who was ideally cast in the title role. Her husband is played by Robert Hussein who gives an equally lifelike performance in all five films. My favourite is ANGELIQUE AND THE SULTAN.HAPPY VIEWING - TAKE THE PLUNGE WITH THIS SET OF ANGELIQUE DVD's - YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.
