That would work. Alternatively you could use a usb-c to usb-a adapter. The adapter and the usb-a port on your motherboard must be USB3.0 compatible.

does this oculus link cable really take 1-2 months to despatch?

mine arrived on release date, however the elite headstrap got delayed and when the shipping was updated it was due for early dec but arrived in about a week instead so i think 1-2 month may just be worst case and you will likely get it much sooner

The one it come with is quite short so it a good idea to by a longer lead but not a cheap one as you will need all pins connected . You kneed a usd c to hdmi

This cable is an active optical type. You can get an identically spec'd cable (in terms of datarate) for less than half the price but it'd also be twice as thick/stiff since it'll be using copper rather than fibre optics. Unfortunately, in this case, the cost may be justified.
