I don't know how this reel compares with the high end Lew's reels that sell for over $400 but for $160 the LFS MP reel seems to be a high quality reel . I ordered the RH 5:6-1 Gear ratio to use on my deep crankbait rod but the seller sent me a RH 6:8-1 Gear Ratio reel . Instead of returning the reel I am going to keep it and use it for techniques other than deep cranking . Other than owning some of their lures, I've seen but never purchased any of their rods. Googan Squad is well known and most probably do make great equipment. I have just never used or can comment on (nothing against Googan Squad) any of their rods or combos. If the rod of your choice meets your fishing needs (fit, size, action, weight, palming, style of fishing etc.) go for it. I own five Lew's reels, some of them on Lew's rods and some on other brand name rods. I have other name brand reels (Daiwa, Abu Garcia, Bass Pro Shop, Kastking, Piscifun) and others, matched with their name brand rods and others. I go with what fits me and my needs. Make sure it's a casting rod, with a good tip and backbone. Oh, I would like to say as well, I love a great looking rod and reel combo. I'm not a pro angler, just someone who loves and been fishing most of his life. In the beginning I got a lot of backlash but I was learning how to use the reel. I owned it for about 7 months now, and unless I need to for light or lures, I'll never go back to spinners because of this real. It's super smooth and feels great. once you learn to meeter with your thumb, you don't have to worry about backlash.
