DMI Foam Seat and Wheelchair Cushion with Cover, Supportive Comfort Foam, 4 x 16 x 18 Inch, Plaid

I'm giving this cushion four stars because it does not actually suit my needs... but I do think it is a quality product that others would benefit from.The cushion cover feels like it is quality made. I don't get the feeling that it would fall apart easily. The fabric has the feel of being somewhat water/stain resistant. At least it feels similarly to other fabrics I've touched that had those traits - I have not tested to see if it is, in fact, water/stain resistant.I did not purchase this to be used on a wheelchair seat. I think in that capacity, it would serve very well, particularly in a "sling" style wheelchair seat. I have a number of joint/back issues that often impact my ability to sit on firmer surfaces like benches and the like, so I was looking for something that was light weight and portable that would provide me with a decent amount of cushioning on firm surfaces.This cushion is SURPRISINGLY light weight for its size. This feature should not be underestimated - it is extremely light weight. That's likely to be a big deal to many customers, and the lightness of this cushion is "5 star quality".The thickness is good... but I think it's probably best suited to someone under 200lbs. Anything over that, and it compresses too much to really make a difference on a firm surface.I have found another use for the cushion... it's actually become a replacement "top" on a small storage ottoman I have in my family room. I constantly felt the outer frame of the box of the ottoman digging into my legs when I'd rest them on it. Placing this pad on top has given me plenty of cushion between my legs/ankles and the frame.The fact that I could re-purpose it makes it worth the price I paid for it... but since I can't actually use it as a comfortable seat cushion, I'm going to stick with the four star rating. I do recommend giving this product a shot if you have need of a quality constructed cushion.

This DURO-MED HIGH-DENSITY FOAM WHEELCHAIR CUSHION is a terrific 4-inch-thick chair cushion, but NOT so terrific as a wheelchair cushion. My stroke-disabled husband (who sits in his old wheelchair during the day) tells me that the cushion is noticeably less comfortable than his 2-inch-thick gel wheelchair cushion. (This is how it seems to me, too.)A gel wheelchair cushion is much more expensive than this one, but a gel cushion conforms better to the body and is a better choice for any person who tends to develop bed sores from too much sitting. (A genuine sheepskin cushion cover also helps fight these sores.)What this cushion is very good for, is for placing on the solid seat of a regular chair to raise the height--to make it easier for a person to get in and out of the chair. We have wooden dining room chairs with wooden arms and lightly padded seats that work really well with this cushion.The removable plaid cushion cover is very bright, but fun. It's made of washable, tightly-woven poly-cotton, and it's well-tailored to fit the interior foam. The stitching and fabric appear to be very durable. The cushion is also light in weight (especially compared to a gel cushion), so it is easy to transport, or to move from one chair to another as needed. (I didn't try this cushion with an easy chair, but I doubt that it will work well unless the chair has a solid seat.)Because this cushion is a little too firm for comfortable sitting for extended periods, I rate it at 4 stars ("I like it" on the official Amazon scale).

My old Aveo has begun to show its age - on a long road trip my rear end is in terrible shape because the foam in the front seat cushions has basically failed. Ordinary/normal foams from the local stores were far too soft to do me any good. On a whim, I started a search for wheelchair cushions searching for the key-phrase "too firm". If that was a problem for wheelchairs, then it was definitely a virtue for me. When my new cushion arrived, I took it out of the ugly plaid jacket and carefully drew a marker line around the center of the perimeter. Then I took a razor-sharp knife and carefully began cutting around the edge through my line. Deeper and deeper until at last I had two separate 2" pieces. - the seat cushions I needed for the Aveo's front buckets.BTW, a second one purchased for a wheel chair got the complaint that it was "too firm". The 100 lb patient sat too high in his wheelchair, and that was a problem. So the weight of the patient will be an issue for the wheelchair cushion. For a heavy patient, this one would be very suitable.

I cannot sit on this cushion for 5 minutes without "PIAN" being induced!! What a shame!! I have purchased this item 3 other times and they have been excellent. The new cushions foam is hard like Styrofoam. Buyer beware as they do not except returns for this item.

I like the size of this chair ,pad just wish there was another color besides the red plaid which was great for Christmas but would like to choose from another color, seems supportive and it’s bigger than a lot of the other Cushions out there .

Works as it should but the pillow case that comes with it didn’t even last a week. I’m just happy it works for my mother. She weighs 185 and uses it for her wheelchair. Perfect riser to get in and out of it for her.

This pad fits wheelchairs and deep armchairs. I was surprised at how well it kept its shape after months of use! The person using it needs assistance in rising from a sitting position and the pad is marvelous for this purpose. It is also soft but durable and molds to the user, including heavier people. A great bargain for the $, especially after buying and trying many other products. Would recommend.... Only drawback is cover which is slightly slippery.

very comfortable

DMI Foam Seat Cushion is comfortable to sit on. It's been treated to be flame resistant. There's a lingering chemical smell even after airing the foam with the cover removed. The polyester cloth cover is very thin and has a light sheen to it. The fabric washes well in cool water but unravels very easily from the inside seams. I had to buy a water resistant patio cushion cover for it so that no chemicals would go on the person's PJ's or skin when they perspire. The zipper works very smoothly, is durable, and the Cushion unzips on three sides. It works fine but I won't get another one of this brand.

Comfortable, adds height

I have only used this cushion a few times and already the stitching has started to unravel. What do I do?

It is prefect for sitting on to help my arthritis.
