The Pebble Spotter's Guide

I bought this present for a friend and having looked very briefly through it it is a very nice book indeed. My friend has used the book several times on trips out and she has very much enjoyed it and found it very useful. Definitely worth giving as a gift all just for yourself.

This book was beautifully presented and informative, however, the pictures are sketches of the pebbles and is not a pictorial reference. This is not really clear in the write up. I needed something more concreate for my studies as an adult. However, this would be a great gift for children new to pebble spotting.

What a beautiful and helpful little book - we are rock collectors (those that have read it know) and our collection is vast. Having just added a dry river bed to our garden, we are in heaven discovering what our wonderful collection consists of... don't be an boring adult, collect those pebbles, you know you want to!

I bought this for my grandson as he lives near a beach and could keep him busy hunting pebbles.The book is very Informative but I thought the pictures would have been photo's instead of illustration. Brilliantly illustrated though.

This is a lovely little book. It is a different take on a geology guide but as well as having pebble drawings and descriptions it has snippets of poetry and other side topics like prehistoric painted pebbles or how to skim a stone. There is space to write in where and when you find each type of pebble. It's hardback with nice thick paper pages so feels like a high quality little book - although it is small it is heavier than other I Spy type books.

The has pretty illustrations but they aren’t of much use for identifying pebbles. Similarly the descriptions are engaging but unhelpful. If you want a pretty book with some surface level information about beach pebbles (most of it only relevant to people in the UK) this book might fit the bill. If you’re a beginning rock hunter, especially one from outside the UK it isn’t much use.

Bought this as a gift for my daughter who has been a rock hunter for many years. She says it is well written and has good photos. You can believe her - she knows rocks!

I ordered this to become more informed, now I also ordered one for a grandson too, so hopefully we can recognise pebbles on the beach.

This is a charming book containing interesting facts about rocks and pebbles. However, the illustrations are all paintings (albeit lovely ones) so are not much use as a guide. Enjoy it as a gem of a book, but find one with better illustrations as a guide.
