I loved this sequel! The drama continues…
“A destiny was something that happened to you, that fell upon you like rain no matter how desperately you tried to hide from it. But if you walked toward it with your head held high, then it wasn’t your fate—it was simply your future.”⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Beatrice Washington now rules America as its first ever queen. Meanwhile, Princess Samantha is under more scrutiny than ever before. Nina Gonzalez is also tangled up with someone she never expected to be. Luckily for Daphne Deighton, Prince Jeff's grief for his father makes him a prime target for her attentions. What none of these four young women know is that a secret bigger than all of them is about to be revealed. One that will change the face of America forever . . .I loved this sequel! The drama continues, but the thing that I love more than anything, is that in each and every character they managed to become the person they were supposed to be.Each character went on a journey through this sequel, to finding themselves and the people who mean the most to them in life. It was great to take this journey alongside the royal family!

Good YA read with interesting twists and turns
I can honestly say this is one of the first books I’ve read in a long time where I had no idea how it would end - and I loved that about it. I especially looked forward to Beatrice’s chapters and I love to hate Daphne. Is it wrong to hope for a third in the series...? Thoroughly good YA read and full of enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. I feel as if could read endless numbers of these books and learn more about the alternative history of America very happily.I was worried the end would be a bit too Princess Diaries (movie version), but felt there were enough differences for it to be a satisfying ending. The only thing I didn’t like so much in this book was the Nina storyline, and also how Daphne just gets away with being so awful all the time, I would have liked to have seen things play out differently for both characters.

Such An Underrated Duology
I loved this more than the first book !! I must admit the relationships all took a 180. Samantha was the star in this book for me.Beatrice - I've never been so torn in a love triangle. I didn't know whether I wanted her with Connor or Teddy. I respected the decision she made in terms of herself and her position.Samantha - She carried this for me. I literally loved Marshall. Love them. Enough said.Daphne - Put her in the bin. What Nina said hit home by the end of her story.Nina - She annoyed me in this book. Very much the boy who cried wolf vibes. Didn't care for her at the end.I just wanna say Jeff is a fool.Thank you for listening to my TED talk

The tricky sequel
The second in this series of books and one I got for 99p on kindle. An accidental Christmas tradition as I read the first one 12 months ago almost exactly!Spoilers so don’t read on if you haven’t read the first one (and would like to, spoiler free). The sequel opens a few months after the last book ended, when the King died and left his teenage daughter as Queen. That is a real oddity in monarchy, that you are trained for a job you can only have when your parent dies, and you would need their support more than ever.Beatrice, Samantha, Daphne and Nina are again the four main voices, with some new men in the mix. This time around I didn’t feel as invested in the characters, if I’m honest. I’m not sure if it was just that there was less detail on the ballrooms, the dresses, the jewellery, or that the novelty of an American monarchy had worn off. There was certainly some recognisable pieces in there from the British royal family, and as one of the suitors is Black, a bit of time devoted to discussing how racist some comments, and some people are - a not too subtle dig, and well placed too.Seeing the politics swapped for the royal family is still fun, of course, and the fact that there have only been 11 monarchs in the whole of the US history is a nice little nod to the still-quite-recent-history of America. The Statue of Liberty has been re-located to Washington, as to have it anywhere else than the seat of the monarchy would have been unthinkable. Ha. I also get the feeling that if I was familiar with the city, I would have caught the references to it that went over my head. The story didn’t feel like it had moved on much from the first one, although there were loads of opportunities for it to have done. I found myself wishing that it went into more depth in all of the characters’ lives. I want to know more about Nina and her parents, Ethan and his. What do their houses look like? Where do they live in Washington? Beatrice is the Queen now, and while there are plenty of notes and references to that, I felt like that flow, that spark had disappeared. McGee herself seems to acknowledge that in the acknowledgements (arf) as she mentions a path out of a tricky plot line, as well as how difficult this book was to write.I recommend this for fans of the first one, for anyone looking for a pretty light hearted, fun read about a fantasy world with a a nice couple of boo-hiss villains and some princess dresses.

A great series - perfect beach read
I'm really enjoying this series. An easy read and I love the idea of an American monarchy. I read this one on holiday in a couple of days, perfect for a relaxing break

All the glamour
Loved this follow up to American Royals. It picks up all the story threads and takes them further as a bunch of rich and privileged teenagers work through relationships with high stakes and high glamour.Like a teenage-focused Danielle Steel, the book is very readable, the characters likeable and the story manages to explore the American constitution, women in power and at the same time give a good rundown of parties, frocks and handbags - great fun!

Bien
Je suis contente de connaître la fin (je crois que c'est la fin) mais je suis un peu déçue.
