Being trumps doing. This book brought that home to me.
Although I had just completed a year's training in coaching, I found The Coache's Handbook fascinating. So informative. Cover to cover. Different specialists each write one of the 39 chapters. As I read, the content had an immediate effect on my daily coaching. One of the key themes of the book is that the presence of the coach, being, is a big part of the magic that happens in coaching. I became more comfortable with that and observed its truth in various sessions.

Fantastic reference text for Postgraduate Coaching students
This is an excellent book, it’s very readable and provides enough depth in each chapter to give the reader a good understanding of the topic but doesn’t drown you in academic language. Highly recommended.

Good content poorly written. Needs a lot of editing.
This book has lots of information in it, but is written in a self-consciously academic style which does not suit the material and makes it needlessly difficult to read. If reading, start from the examples in each chapter then go back to the theory - otherwise not a lot will make sense, and the complexity of the writing will obscure the meaning. Not sure if there is a better book that covers this purpose - but if there are others, I’d recommend starting there instead. I read it as it was a text for a course. If it wasn’t, I would have put it down part way through (especially during section 4, which I expected should have been the best part.

A huge book
I was hoping for a handbook that would be a go to book to support my development as a coach and ths book seemed to fit th bill. On opening the forst few pages, I realised that I would verh likely avoid trying t read it as it is not only a thick and densely packed book, the text is far too small, badly printed (grey and not black) and takes a pedantic approach to explaining the various facets of coaching and the coaching business. It appears to be well structured with clear chapters and sections, but if you are looking for an engaging read which draws you in and is difficult to put down, this is not the book for you. I sent it back in the hope of finding a much better publication that will be helpful, rather than a weighty unopened addition to my bookshelf.
