A: Hi, The diameter of the mesh surface is 7.67 inches, and the length of the rod can reach 33 inches after straightening.

**Q: Is this too young for a 12 year old?**
A: depends on the child, it is plastic parts so a rough and tumble big kid may need metal or more heavy duty props, the vest would fit an average/small 12 year old but def not a bigger sized kid.  backpacks and flashlights are very universal but some pieces would not be

The vest fits just to little kids, maybe up to 6 years old. My son is 9 years old and it didn't fit BUT all the items are great. He has a lot of fun exploring and playing with them.
