AC: The Power of Appetite Correction

it covers the subject thoroughly
I tried fast 5 on my own but I didn’t know I was doing it wrong until I read this book. I feel like I can lose more weight now that I have all this information. There are plenty of encouraging strategies and I feel like I can be successful. I’m starting tomorrow doing it the right way.

Getting out the big guns against metabolic syndrome!
I first read about this approach (not calling it Fast 5) on Dr. Eric Berg's IG account. I Googled for more info and it lead me to Dr. Bert Herring. Something got through my thick head about what I've been doing wrong for many years. This is a very simple trick to "hack" your system and the way you approach food. It is not a path to an eating disorder or an unhealthy method of losing weight, but it's is an age old trick to simply stop putting so many calories in your body. Is it easy? Not at first, but it's simple, easy to do and it works exactly as Dr. Herring says it does. Kind of like finding road signs that let you know you're on the right highway to a desired destination, the bodily expectations happen as predicted and there is no more guess work.Dr. Herring is a great author. He's funny, doesn't ramble, isn't overly repetitive, he's scientific without being too technical and leads you through the subject in an interesting way. My only question which Dr. Herring leaves up to the reader is whether following a keto diet speeds up or helps the process. As a Type 2 diabetic I don't know if eating sugar will undo the benefits of the 19 hour fast if I chose to eat whatever I want in the 5 hour eating window. (Here's a tip. Your eating window is not your gorging window. It's miraculous how quickly the stomach shrinks and holds less food at a meal.)After six days, I already feel less flab on my hips. I'm sticking to this plan which is success in itself. This book is said to be a game changer and to that I agree! It feels like I'm approaching metabolic syndrome with the big guns!

New knowledge about an older idea.
I tried Fast-5 when I first downloaded the free E-Book a number of years ago. It was hard to begin with and I always found myself eating a lot of extra food before the window closed. I used Fast-5 off and on since then with limited success. I did lose some fat and am only slightly overweight now (BMI 26) as opposed to being very overweight (BMI 29) before I started. I never quite got to where I really wanted to be though, lean like I was when I was younger.I was researching Intermittent Fasting when I came across Dr. Herrings new book. It looked interesting so I purchased a copy. I couldn't put it down and kept reading until the end! It had a lot of Ah Ha moments where I realized where I had gone wrong using Fast-5. I had cut my food down to only one meal but what a meal! I ate till I was almost bursting because I couldn't eat again until tomorrow. I wasn't gaining weight but my goals always seemed just out of reach. It's too early to say how well this is going to end up but I'm very enthused and excited that I may have finally found something that works. I'm going to eat until I'm not hungry, not until I'm stuffed. I'm also following the principles outlined in "The perfect health diet" by Paul and Shou-Ching Jaminet, also available from Amazon.I plan on writing another review in a few months to report on my success. This new book is just the extra knowledge I needed to make Fast-5 work! Need I say it again? I'm pumped! This book may just be the kick in the pants I needed to succeed!

GAVE ME BETTER PERSPECTIVE ON INTERMITTENT FASTING
I've been intermittent Fasting (IF) for years. I'd dropped a good deal of weight over the years, but still didn't feel like I'd accomplished anything. That may not make sense considering I've dropped over 100 lbs since 2015, but I still never felt in control, and I obviously was still searching since I bought this book. I also would still like to drop another 20-30 lbs. This is the first book on Fasting on IF I've read that gave my fasting a goal: correcting my appetite. Dr. Herring provides specific tools and goal posts to help determine if I am achieving that goal. Period.I look forward to editing this review in 6 months to a year with an update. I'm interested in permanent change, not a quick but temporary result.

Sustainable weight loss
Great book on successfully using fasting and making it fit into your lifestyle. I started at a 16/8 plan and have moved into a 19/5 plan. My major concern at the beginning was being concerned that hunger would make it difficult to complete my usual daily activities. My eventual plan was to make sure food was available in case it was too overwhelming and, admittedly, the first week was a little difficult. I was hungry during the day off and on, but I stuck to the plan and used some of Dr. Herrings tricks for getting past the hunger. I started losing weight immediately. Now, at four weeks in, hunger does occur, but is easily ignored. The best thing about this plan for me is the ability to control my appetite and only eat when I choose (and I do eat!). Hunger is fleeting at other times of the day outside my chosen eating window. Eating multiple meals a day always ended up with feeling hungrier and having trouble sticking to my calorie limit. Now, I don't bother to count, though I do still keep my carbs low as I find I feel better that way. This is a very sustainable way to eat for me.

Most of the is very valuable!
I, as an MD low-carb experienced for more than 24 years, have found most of the book very valuable. It’s simple to understand, it’s plenty of tips and useful advice, and, generally, it’s easy to implement too.Dr. Herring manages to mixture good science with an enjoyable way to deliver his message. My only 4 stars come from the fact that he didn’t include references like Dr. Jason Fung or insisted that a low carb long lifestyle is not advisable in the hybridized mixing with 19:5, and quite inferiorizing the keto-low carb way of living as a beneficial one. I’ve found that a very good way to go along this way of eating and 18:6 or 19:5 may very well do much more for people with overweight, obesity and not so little chronic diseases.

Very basic.
It's ok. Nothing new for me here though. For a more sound and thorough explanation of appetite and metabolism I'd recommend Jason Fung's The Obesity Code. For an easy-to-read, well-researched book along similar subject lines I much preferred Delay, Don't Deny by Gin Calhoun Stevens.
