Peril and Peace: Chronicles of the Ancient Church (History Lives series) Review: Great perspective, odd facts at times - Maybe I’m writing this from a Catholic perspective whereas this book is definitely not…. There are some dubious facts that all faiths may not agree on. The first Pope was not Gregory the Great which is an odd claim to make as an outsider looking in. Otherwise they are a fun and easy read and it’s a great way to learn church history. Review: Great Series - This entire series has proven to be helpful for my family. We began reading these stories to our son in the evening as part of his bedtime routine. He is only 7 months old, so his comprehension is lacking, but for my wife and I, these stories have been encouraging and helpful. We teach a Jr. High Sunday school class and I gave my kindle to one of my students so that he could read them. He loved them. These books will teach your children about church history, and will do so in a way that keeps their attention. I would highly recommend the whole series.

This is an awesome book- It has short chapters that give information about the historical church followed by chapters on the lives of certain ancient church fathers. The biography chapters are written in really wonderful prose style- perfect to capture a child's interest. Perfect book to acquaint a child with the history and people of the early church.

A must read for anyone at all interested in church history!
This book is absolutely wonderful! I use it with my kids (ages 6-14) for church history studies. It is written in such a way that all of them can understand (although it really is probably best suited for about age 10 and up). It is so well-written and so very interesting that even I enjoy reading it. Absolutely LOVE this book.

Love it!
Got this to read with my boys as an intro to church history. We are only a few chapters it but I really like it! My nine and six year olds both are enjoying listening to it, but it’s probably a little more on my nine year old’s level.

Good Introduction for Youth
This book would be an appropriate introduction to Church History for a bright 13 year old, but in general might be more helpful to a 14-15 year old. The stories are written in an engaging manner, with short chapters interspersed that teach some of the concepts that were important to certain periods in church history.

Great book about early church history!!
Fun, exciting, and dramatic stories of our early church fathers. Engaging for ages 7 and up! Great for anyone wanting to learn about what happened after the early apostles began building the Christian church.

Opinion of a 13 year old
According to my 13 year old, this was a great book with interesting background information into leaders of the early church. The stories are short, but interesting and full of information. He gives it a 4 because "it was great, but not earth-shattering or anything." I guess his standards for five stars are pretty high;)
